Thompson was alright a few years ago when Wlad beat him, just alright mind, but since then he's become almost comically slow and sloppy and really hasn't faced a decent opponent. He's also done absolutely nothing to warrant his mandatory position.

Honestly all these belts are really becoming a liability to Wlad because they force him to take on meaningless mandos else risk being stripped. What benefit are they to Wlad if they can't get him the good fights?

Thompson seems a well-spoken individual, unusual in the boxing world of big mouthed fools. Just listen to Goosen, when a Promoter says "I'm not exaggerating" I suppose we have to believe him...eh?? And when a fighter says "I know in my heart" what we really know is that he's trying to convince himself. I think however that he's right, Klitschko won't give up one of the belts they both wanted so much.

What I remember of Thompson that he was a very mechanical, lustreless kind of boxer, but competent. I don't think competency will be enough.

Yeah, I got no real disrespect for Thompson who seems like a decent bloke and someone who's worked hard to make the most of his meagre physical talent. He's succeeded against the odds, and for that he should be respected. But him being ranked in the top ten, let alone being a mandatory for Wlad is just ludicrous.

I've watched a few of Thompson's fights and I still for the life of me can't work out what enabled him to ever win those fights in the first place. He's so slow, crude and average hitting that even in this era of pretty weak contenders he should never have got as far as he did. An enigma for sure.
