Comments Thread For: Joan Guzman vs. Jesus Pabon Early Results

    By Jake Donovan

Later this evening at the Westin Diplomat Hotel in Hollywood, FL, former two-division champ Joan Guzman makes his 2012 debut in front of a nationally televised audience on ESPN2 Friday Night Fights. The unbeaten Dominican faces Jesus Pabon in a stay-busy fight as he looks to maintain pace for a possible 140 lb. title shot by year's end.

IMO Guzman didn't impress at all. He's going to lose his 0 when he fights any of the top ten junior welters. He's not going anywhere.

Guzman was alright when he was actually boxing. When he started clowning, the fight got real ugly. With that said, it didn't help that anytime they got close together, Pabon would hold all day. Guzman should have and could have ended that fight 3-4 rounds earlier than he did.

He should fight the Paris-Judah winner. We'd find out more about where he is right now if that happens. He's not as quick or as good as he was 5-6 years ago, but that's to be expected. I still think he can beat some of the Top 10 JWW. I don't see him beating a Khan, Peterson, or Bradley at this stage. But fights with Judah, Paris, Garcia, Alvarado, Maidana, would all be interesting.

        what a sick KO.

Yeah Guzman was a little sloppy, he's a little older or whatever but he still gives anyone at 140 problems. Obviously he has to keep his weight in check and keep winning to get there.

Southpaw stance seem to bother Guzman a little, the holding made it the all more worse, still a great finish.

Guzman won't beat a Khan or Bradley, and Peterson at this stage would be a hard task.

But I can still see Guzman having the skills to beat Garcia, Morales, Maidana, Judah, and Paris.

Guzman at this age is not supposed to beat Khan, Bradley, or even Peterson.

But he'd whoop Maidana, Matthysse, Soto again, Morales easy, Judah, I don't know about Garcia he's pretty good, Alvarado, and Paris.

So out of the top 10, I'd have Guzman over 6 of 10, that would be pretty good for a 35 year old who's not even ranked in the top 10 and has seen better days, and wasted the last years of his prime battling weight issues.
