For my psyche verbal Finals I'm doing a presentation on boxers and courage, how it is perceived, the DIFFERENT kinds of courage and how it's not always about winning. I'm showing clips and using examples of these fights. (obviously few people at Uni know who these boxers are so I must explain to them the lead up and background)
Wladimir Klithscko vs Corrie Sanders and Wladimir Klithscko vs Lamon Brewster.
I felt like Wlad showed great courage in these two fights in that he kept trying
to get back up and get back into the fight despite being knocked down to the point of where he seemed like he was going to die right there on the canvas. That inner fire is really special to see.
Vitali Klithscko vs Chris Byrd.
This was an amazing display of courage by Vitali BECAUSE HE QUIT. He knows about the backlash and he knows what the media will say, but he showed great common sense in quitting since his shoulder was getting torn out.
Mike Tyson/ Shannon Briggs vs Lennox Lewis
Showing clips of these fights because it was surreal the amount of punishment Briggs and Tyson took, to have this much pride standing in front of the baddest boxer on the planet who's also 6'5 inches 250 pounds of rock muscles and getting beaten to a pulp. Shows true prize fighting heart.
David Tua vs Lennox Lewis
David Tua showed great courage in getting embarrassed for 12 Rounds. Instead of saying 'no mas no mas' he kept at it. This also takes a special kind of courage. Few men would have been willing to subject himself to the humiliations Tua took that night against Lewis. I'm especially showing the clips where Lewis was doing his version of Ali dancing, swaying back and forth and Tua just standing there like utterly outclassed but refusing to quit.
Michael Grant vs Lennox Lewis
THIS WAS HUGE, because I'm showing how a boxer was willing to give up his ENTIRE career in one night in pursue of a goal. Grant basically handed his career over that night in pursue of a dream. He was slugged out and left almost dying but he still showed so much heart.
Courage don't mean Gatti-Ward or Hearns-hagler it comes in many forms when dealing with prize fighting.
