And that was before the bigger paydays!

I hope "El Ciclon" lives up to his potential and starts making multi-million dollar fights soon; his generosity can come back to bite him. I'd hate for him to wind up like Duran.

yea, he has been wanting a fight in miami because all his fans want it there. I know he has tried to get a fight down there for a while but top rank aint bout that. If solis drew 7k in miami gamoa would do well over 10k, top rank just doesnt want to put in the work. But if he wins this one there will be no other choice

I'm looking forward to the day when Gamboa calls the shots, or at least has much more control over his career. If Yuri started fighting more often in Miami, it would multiply interest in boxing among the Cuban population. Exposure and an air of excitement are what draws new fans to a sport. Right now, practically the only Cubans that care about Gamboa were boxing fans to begin with. As with Pacquiao, once the common man starts to identify with a fighter, he becomes converted.

I agree with this whole-heartedly. I don't think the casual Cuban boxing fan in Miami has been exposed to Yuri enough, (although I still think a Gamboa card down here would generate some solid flow $).. He started his pro career in Germany and then just took off

I think the only fights he's had in Florida were in Hollywood and Fort Lauderdale, 2 to 3 years ago.

Either way, I don't see Yuri staying with Top Rank for much longer. It seems like all the fights we'd want him to have are against dudes Arum is grooming.
