That DLH MAyweather beat would box the **** out of Cotto no question about it.

Also the key thing he said here, Cotto is not faster than Ortiz(Who was eating straight right hands like M&M's in that fight).

He may have knocked him out with a well timed left hook but that version of Oscar would not have outboxed Cotto.

I agree, 2007 DLH > 2012 Cotto... but not by a huge margin. They were similar, both left handed but fight orthodox, have a great left jab. DLH never really improved his right straight, but I think Cotto did in recent years thanks to Steward. The thing is, DLH's weight/size/height is what made his fight with Floyd somewhat competitive. Floyd was small for 154 back then, he's better suited for it now than before.

According to boxrec.com , Cotto and JMM have the same exact height/reach.

Doesn't really mean much, especially since Cotto and JMM have different boxing styles, and also Cotto being much bigger than JMM, and only slightly bigger than Floyd, or equal.

Floyd's reach advantage will show up... just as it did in the Floyd/JMM fight.

The only advantages that Cotto has that JMM didn't, is the jab (although JMM's jab is good, too), weight, power, and experience as a southpaw (Cotto is left handed, remember). I'm not so sure on the handspeed difference of Cotto and 2009 "Fat" Marquez. Neither are fast, that's for sure.

If Cotto doesn't have much success fighting Floyd as an orthodox, maybe switching to southpaw will help. His left straight seems pretty powerful, and will negate Floyd's shoulder roll. At the same time, this may cause Floyd to be more aggressive and use a high guard, resulting in a more entertaining match.

Floyd UD 116-112 in a good fight, worth paying for if you're a fan of the sweet science, and has a good undercard (Mosley vs. Alvarez).

What @ 154 leads you to believe that? His TKO victory of Ricardo Mayorga which Oscar did in half the time or his "okay" wins over Foreman and a shot Margarito?

Cotto at no point in his career was ever better than De La Hoya, which is what I think he's trying to get at. By his understanding, if De La Hoya lost to Floyd at 154, what makes people think Cotto will beat him?


We all know Floyd is the clear favorite, but you just never know...great fighters always have that miracle performance that seemingly comes out of nowhere, when everybody thought they didn't have it in them. Maybe Cotto is on to something, who knows.

He wouldn't have fought him at 154 pounds. The weight has to factored in when talking about that version of Oscar.

Possibly, but Pac would have beaten Oscar badly still, even if he had weighed 154. Just my opinion based on styles. He was just way, way to fast for anything but a 135-140 Oscar from like 2000 or prior.

Uhmm, Oscar @ 154 was less of a boxer than Cotto. Cotto st this weight is a better technician than Oscar was. I do agree that any prime version of Oscar say 147 and down beats Cotto and the 140 version knocks him out with little trouble at all.
