Tyson vs Holyfield 1 - Your thoughts??

I am watching fights of when Heavy Weights were Heavy Weights......Holyfield chin like granite. Mike looked strong and ready. People knock Mike for his losses (Douglass, Holyfield and Lewis) those are the only losses I consider real losses. Tyson gave us a lot of drama in those fights. The Douglass fight was a great fight, the first fight with Evander was awesome to watch and the first few rounds of the Lewis fight were competitive. Those three losses were great fights.

I was nine when that fight happened, and I remember my mom telling me how Holyfield was going to get destroyed, he had no chance. One of my earliest boxing memories is this fight and the rematch.

      Just watched that fight today.

Isn't it weird that there were three heavyweight championships on one single card that day? WBA, IBF, WBO with all different fighters, isn't that very uncommon and counterproductive for the promoters because they want to make as much money as possible with every fight filling an arena and a PPV buy each for its own?

Great fight you can see Tyson complainig after round 6 about the head butts and punches after the rounds.

Does anyone else wonder if the stoppage was quick?

Don King always, always put on good cards, even if they were filled with his own fighters. In fact, his demise meant the demise of a good card as far as I'm concerned.

Anyway, getting back to the fight, I was so psyched when it was announced because, in spite of his recent performances, I thought Holyfield was going to kick Tyson's ass. Admittedly, as a big Holyfield fan back then, I was fairly biased. But I ALWAYS felt he had the right style to beat Mike, even back in the early 90's. And his fight plan was just awesome; a throwback performance and perhaps the most inspiring I've seen.

Pretty good fight, although it winning 1996's fight of the year makes it the most overrated fight this side of Quartey-DLH. Good action in spots, marred by a lot of clinching.

Holyfield fought a very good fight, picking when to exchange, clinch, and also showed his physical strength by pushing Tyson around.

Holyfield said he learned after the Bowe trilogy (especially the 3rd fight) to not be so brawl-happy and fight more controlled. You see this here, he wasn't reckless, he picked his spots more.

And also threw some beautiful right hands, rolling off Tyson's right and firing back with his own. And that right he hurt Tyson with in the 10th started off with a feint. Really cerebral fight by a fighter who normally fought with his heart and thought with another organ
