What a crock of *****.
Bottom line floyd is a public figure and is subject to any and all scrutinization the papparrazzi and media broadcasts decides.
If floyd deems it necessary to insinuate scandals and possiblr racism to draw attention to himself to sell his fights then it has everything to do with his fight and should be made to answer for it just like any other public figure.
There's a reason why other sports stars dont make the kind of ignorant statements floud mskes. Because they have to pay for it in the form of fines, suspensions, public apologies, and risk being traded or released. Meanwhile *****s rejoice in floyd dancing around isdues he himself creates.Comment

The precedence was set in that interview with Merchant and Chavez Jr.
It was so out of character for Merchant NOT to ask a question about outside the ring stuff that Lampley had to follow up afterward explaining why they didn't ask him about the DUI he got a week prior saying they didn't want to "effect his performance in the ring." WTF? Is that the Larry you know??Comment

This measure forces commentators to actually do their jobs and talk about boxing. How is this a bad thing?Comment

This is just horrible. So what if they are negative towards you Floyd. It's an opinion. Everyone has a right to it.Comment

It appears someone's ego needs to be seriously stroked at all times. I find that as long as Floyd is receiving accolades during the post fight interview all goes well. Look at the interviews, the moment anyone, not just merchant, but anyone, talks negatively about his performance, Floyd deflects it. However, he makes it blatantly obvious.
It's a matter of how one perceives the post-fight interview's necessity. Some think it's merely a place for the winning fighter to do his "on a pedestal" schtick. Other's, like myself, believe that is the moment to probe into the pros and cons of the fighter's performance, as well as finding out from that fighter what his next move could potentially be.
Apparently, Floyd feels the post fight interview is a place for him to be put on a pedastal. Maybe at one time that post fight was used like that, but nowadays it's not uncommon for the critique-like questions to come up. As a professional, you should answer them appropriately, not dodge them as if they should have never been asked.
Now, there's another side to this, though. As I do see that sometimes some boxers are not probed as hard. The obvious comparison is Pacquiao, who never seems to be asked, post-fight about PEDs or why he didn't do so well. Well, he is asked about that, but the issue is seldom to never pushed. Then again, two things come into play here...Pacquiao doesn't come off as blatantly trying to avoid the question, he comes off more humble than anything else, sincere or not. Then you have the notion that Floyd is held to such a high standard that when he slightly underperforms, it's makes headlines and is looked uner a microphone.Comment

While in negotiations for the May 5 Mayweather fight, Mayweather instructed his representative Al Haymon to inform HBO’s Hershman that if the boxer was to fight on HBO in the future, Lampley and Merchant must surrender the right to discuss any and all of Mayweather’s affairs outside the ring on the HBO telecast. The ban would include any discussion of Mayweather’s management team.
Mayweather previously demanded the same ban during past fight negotiations with former longtime HBO Sports President Ross Greenburg but Greenburg never ceded any measure of editorial control of HBO’s own broadcasts to the boxer.
Multiple sources have informed SbB that Hershman, who recently took over for Greenburg, has since agreed to Mayweather’s ban demand.
Additionally, Hershman agreed to surrender the right of Lampley and Merchant to discuss any outside-the-ring affairs of other fighters repped by Haymon.
Lampley and Merchant have been informed of their new, on-air editorial limits pertaining to Mayweather and other Haymon-repped fighters with the latter ban going into full effect this Saturday when Lampley and Merchant call Adrien Broner’s fight on HBO.
