  • I'VE GOT AN IDEA....For the sake of the sport we love, please read and contribute...

    Hey guys,

I might not post too much on here, but I read everything and I am as hardcore as a fan as anyone. Please take what I mean seriously because all I want is for boxing to grow back into what it was.

    Here it is.

MMA has been around for approximately 25 years now. Boxing has been around (in it's current form) for around 150 years. Look where they both are today.

MMA is largely just seen as the UFC now because of Dana White and his excellent branding and promotion, he's turned the UFC into a monopoly and it's a fantastic brand. They produce great cards and get the best to constantly fight the best. Whether or not you like MMA, Dana White has been amazing for it.

Like basketball, when people think of basketball, they think of NBA, nothing else. When you think of MMA, you think of UFC, when you think of boxing, you think of, uhhhhhh, see where I'm getting at?

If boxing could somehow turn into a single BRAND like the NBA, NFL or UFC then it could be incredible. The cards will be packed, the merchandise would be awesome and the BEST will be made to the fight the BEST.

Who could put something like this together? Who has the money, the contacts, the experience, the love of the sport? One guy:

    DANA WHITE.

Dana White has repeatedly said he is a HUGE boxing fan. Why can't he do the same thing he's done for MMA with the UFC with boxing?

Yeah, it might take 5, 10, 20 years. But I believe he could do it.

If he can make a brand that the fans love and that the fighters want to be apart of, who knows, perhaps people like Bob Arum will be forced to shut down.

I say we try and get in contact with Dana White, form a petition to show the interest and demand, and see where it can be taken from there.

This is OUR sport. We're the people who pay to watch it and love it. If we want to be better then WE are the ones who should take the first step.

Please take a minute to consider this and give your suggestions.

Also, please, keep this civil, no trolling or insulting each other. This is for the benefit of our sport. Boxing.

    Thank you for your time.

This already happens now, just look at Bob Arums inhouse fights.

Boxing needs one belt per division and one unilatteral organisation controlling everything.

There are too many different organisations, rules and variables in boxing atm.

Boxing needs an organisation such as UEFA (football) that sets one set of rules and regulations.

But that's just it. Bob Arum doesn't care about the sport of boxing. He protects fighters and avoids fights with other promoters.

You have to remember that Dana White got his hands on MMA when it was basically just starting out. There is no way any one man could pull something like UFC with 150 year old boxing.

To much time and history has gone on in boxing to make into one brand, I can see where you are coming from but there isn't a chance in hell that anyone would attempt that, the UFC have all their fighters on contracts, how the hell in the world would you do that with boxing? Floyd, Manny, Miguel, Vitali, Wladimir, and everyone one else would be asking for too much and before long your perfect boxing "UFC" would combust!

There is a big problem in the states, they have a different commision in every state, setting different rules.

America needs to get it's act together and have one commission for the USA.

The the commission's of each country can sit down and come up with universal rules and standards that they will abide to.

There can be regional commissions set up at European, African, Asian, South American, North American and Australasian.

We then could have a universal commission to oversee these, and one world championship for each weight class can be settled on and off the other sanctioning bodies will be null and void since no commission in no country would sanction their fights.

We could then set up which fighters fight each other, e.g. The champ has to fight the number 1 contender within a year, a fighter can only fight another fighter ranked 5 place above or bellow him.

All fights will be a 60/40 split to the winner, universal drug testing, enforcing bans world wide and other improvements will follow.

its a fantasy but to do this what you would need is a promotional agency set up by some sort of oscar de la hoya x 100. Basically say somebody as dominant and exciting as say tyson comes along in the heavyweight division and doiminates completely for 7 or 8 years makes like a billion quid and is recognisable across the globe as the face of boxing. Then he comes out and says screw all these belts and organisation i'm starting my own - in some high publicity event melts all the belts down into one "undisputed belt" then sets up super six style comps in each division all the way down for the same belt in each division. If this one belt is then recognised as THE belt all the other ones become meaningless. Another way to have it stand out above the others is have only winnable over 15 rounds, that would immediately put it a level above the 12 rounder belts.
