Comments Thread For: Johnriel Casimero Getting Honored For Lazarte TKO Win

Newly crowned IBF light flyweight interim champion Johnriel Casimero is the subject of several congressional resolutions for his courageous 10th round TKO victory over former champion Luiz Lazarte of Argentina and for braving a post-fight riot at Mar del Plata.

I hope he trains well for his next fight because I am not convinced he is that good. Just so happened he was the victim of a dirty fighter with a rabid fan base. The win with Lazarte was more of his better stamina as a younger fighter, and not because he boxed better, that's IMO.

Casimero is a young fighter that I noticed has been adjusting and making changes, trying to find the best style that works for him. He also seems to have stamina problems that were shored up in his last fight. With time and proper training, I think he can be a force in his division.

casimero should get a world class trainer, if he stay in the Philippines his improvement will be limited and may have reached its peak...

Casimero has better head and foot movement than your average Filipino boxer. He also has a little counter punching ability. Not a fan of how he keeps his hands low though. His Filipino trainer seems decent enough.

At light flyweight, I'm not sure American trainers will give him the attention he deserves. At the Wildcard, Casimero might be stuck with Buboy instead or like Melligen train with Tony Martin. He'll have access to facilities and good sparring partners but I'm not sure how much better his situation would be in the USA.

The Philippines needs to develop a few good trainers to progress as a boxing country. The only way to do that is to have them coach fighters at the world championship level.

Bobby Villaver is the best Filipino trainer imo. He has world championship experience and has a track record of improving fighters. Might need a S&C coach in his gym though. He trains prospects like Saludar and Cabalquinto.

ALA's Edito Villamor is pretty mediocre with his hop 1,2 move but I notice his younger fighters have more head movement . Their moves look too repetitive and predictable. But they have a S&C coach and I've noticed some improvement in their fighters mainly punching power. ALA might want to hire a new head trainer and demote Villamor as an assistant.

Sylvester Lopez displays a few good fundamentals. His trainer Elorde seems decent enough.
