Personally, I don't necessarily have a problem with an African-American being proud of other African-Americans. But the difference is that Mexican, Filipino, German, Cuban, etc. are nationalities, not races. Puerto Rico is technically not a country, but we always refer to it as such. There are black Puerto Ricans, white Puerto Ricans and everything in between. The same with the Cubans and Dominicans. There are, of course, some countries that are known for a highly predominant race, with the nationality being almost synonymous with such, like the Philippines.
I guess we could get into it (although I'm certainly not inclined to at the moment...lol), but for certain reasons, in some societies, it makes people uncomfortable to see you side with race, as opposed to geographic region. In our society, for instance, it's perfectly acceptable for you to root for your hometown, state, country, school, etc., but not race.
Let me ask you a question. If there were a boxing fan here that rooted only for white fighters (and there are indeed a few...lol), would you say, "That's okay, he's just proud of his race's accomplishments." Or would you tend to think he's a racist. Be honest now.... lol
