British boxing fans presumed that they had seen the last of Manchester’s David Barnes when the former British light-welterweight and welterweight champion lost to Colin Lynes in Prizefighter: The Light-Welterweights in December 2009. Barnes sat out the whole of 2010 and most of 2011 before returning to action with a decision win over Isaac Quartey last November. A former soldier, wild child and one of the most highly rated prospects of the early-noughties, Barnes recently joined forces with Coldwell Boxing in a bid to realise his potential.
