Marquez Gives His Thoughts On Bradley-Pacquiao, Explains The Keys To Victory For Each fighters.

        Enjoy.

        --------------
Announcer Dude: Timothy Bradley against Manny Pacquiao; two very fast fighters, one is a knockout artist, the other, not so much of a knockout artist, but more of a stylist…how do you see this fight?

JMM: Good afternoon Alvaro. I think it’s a good fight; a fight where the fans will be interested. But well, I think it’s a fight where Bradley has to box with a lot of intelligence. He has to use his boxing with a lot of speed, which can be very difficult. He’s a short fighter, a fighter characterized by his boxing (skill) and his speed. So what he needs to do is keep moving, throwing combinations of punches with speed, and also take advantage of the opportunities he’s given.

Announcer Dude: Bradley has had very difficult fights against Devon Alexander and Joel Casamayor, the latter an opponent which you faced. It made him work, but at the end he got the victory.
JMM: That’s right. Casamayor, a fighter with a difficult style, a fighter who is two time champion of the world and a winner of Olympic Gold in Barcelona; I think sometimes the style…the style is always different for each fighter, and there are times where it facilitates, and others where it complicates. We saw that Joel Casamayor was a little difficult for Bradley that November 12th.

Announcer Dude: (Referring to stats graphic) Pacquiao is 5 years older than the US citizen. Pacquiao has more fights, more experience; Bradley continues undefeated, but the knockouts, there’s where you see the difference: 38 for Pacquiao, only 12 for Timothy Bradley. If you were-and I’m going to ask something really difficult of you- if you were the trainer of Manny Pacquiao, what suggestions would you give him for facing off against Timothy Bradley?

JMM: What I would tell Manny Pacquiao is that he has to pressure, he has to pressure; he has to trap Timothy Bradley, who’s a fighter that looks to move laterally a lot, and cut off his lateral steps. He needs to pressure constantly, and he has to-when he’s got him cornered-he needs to take advantage of that opportunity and throw combinations of 4, 5 punches at a time, to capitalize on having enclosed Timothy Bradley; and also, his punches have to be (thrown) with precision. It’s useless to have trapped Bradley if you don’t have speed, and you don’t have precision. That’s what Manny Pacquiao has to do, that’s the key, and as the trainer, I’d send out Manny Pacquiao to fight that way.

Announcer Dude: Yes, it’s useless to have a great volume of punches if they’re not concrete. And Timothy Bradley, what would you recommend for him in confronting Manny Pacquiao, who you’ve faced on 3 occasions?

JMM: Yes, as the trainer I’d tell Bradley that he has to use speed. He’s right there…Manny Pacquiao is a fighter who’s a little slow to think; what Bradley has to do is use his speed a lot, to be in short, which is what works for him and his height. He has to use his speed, and always be moving, never standing still, or static; and at the same time, he has to throw combinations. With that speed that characterizes Bradley, he has to be throwing combinations, and be moving. He can’t be standing there or showing an open target, because if he does, Manny Pacquiao can connect on him, and we know Manny Pacquiao has a damaging punch.
Announcer Dude: If he stands still, he kills him.

JMM: That’s right. If he stays still and is static, Manny Pacquiao can connect on him.

Announcer Dude: With that, I consider why Manny Pacquiao is the favorite over Timothy Bradley.

JMM: Yes, he’s the favorite. Why? Because we see that Bradley has 12 fights won by knockout, and 50-something by Manny Pacquiao…53 or 54 wins, and 38 by knockout, but they’ve been barbaric knockouts. I think that the difference in terms of power will be very important.

              ---------------

Announcer Dude (Jorge Eduardo Sanchez): Here we are in the Golpe A Golpe Ring- Juan Manuel Marquez, Jorge Eduardo Sanchez. We have a little bit of time, so let’s go Juan; we have to talk of Tim Bradley against Manny Pacquiao on June 9th. It would seem that Pacquiao takes it easily, but let’s elaborate beyond the short of it: If they picked Bradley so that Pacquiao would shine, they already made a mistake.

JMM: Yes, it seems that they did it with that goal in mind, so that Manny Pacquiao would look his best, but we know that Timothy Bradley is a very difficult fighter due to the style he has: very fast, very elusive, and very hard to hit, regardless of the speed that Pacquiao has. Bradley is a fighter who’s always moving to all sides, who also ducks down very low (side steps and ducks down); you can’t hit him, and he uses lateral steps well (jabs while stepping); he uses his speed a lot (throws combination.) But it’s trouble if he stands in front of Pacquiao, because Manny Pacquiao is a quick fighter, an aggressive fighter. But what Timothy Bradley can do is use lots of lateral steps, crouch, and suddenly throw (circles, crouches, and throws), quickly; throw very quickly. And the important thing that I think he’s going to do is not allow for Pacquiao to get comfortable with the shots that he can throw at a distance.

Announcer Dude: Manny Pacquiao landed on you in a certain moment in this last fight you had against him; the changing of the angle, with those marvelous feet Pacquiao has…

              JMM: Yes…

Announcer Dude: In one given moment, he notoriously employed that game of footwork, doing a dance, and he succeeded in getting in a right hook. If Bradley doesn’t study that, he can end up going (down) to the canvas.
JMM: What happens, what Pacquiao has studied well, is that you jab, and he waits on it and throws the right hook (throws jab, takes counter over the top). Always he’s waiting, he’s waiting for you to throw the jab so that he can catch you there (takes hook), and take advantage of that moment. If Bradley doesn’t throw the jab quickly and keep back-stepping, he can find himself in danger with that right hand.

Announcer Dude: It’s going to be much more difficult than the people think.

JMM: That’s right; much more difficult, because that’s his style. He’s very elusive, very fast, and he moves very quickly as well.
