York Hall, Bethnal Green – Unheralded Felix Lora, 14-9-5 (8), came out of the traps like a man possessed against Kevin Mitchell in front of a noisy, capacity York Hall crowd in last Friday’s main event. Mitchell had acknowledged that Lora was likely to provide him with a test pre-fight but cannot have expected the Dominican, by way of Barcelona, to unceasingly throw haymaker after haymaker in a wild attempt to turn out The Dagenham Destroyer’s lights. Kevin boxing well on Friday. He moved around the ring really well, picked his shots and his punch accuracy was excellent. He perhaps could have followed up on the knock down in the 2nd but I’d prefer to see him get the rounds in after a long period of inactivity.
In a nutshell Dean Powell is right, you can’t win! Kevin did what he had to do in a very professional and mature manner.
I still pick Burns to win should the fight happen, and it looks like it will. But I wouldn’t put my money on it, with his head in the right place Kevin Mitchell is a very classy operator and a very nice person to boot.

Im not doubting hes got talent i just didnt think he performed like someone who was trying to justify himself getting a world title shot. I do think the lads good i just think he has other agendas other than boxing. If he does fight burns i think it'd be a close fight.

Yes, am very sure! Lora is one of those fighters whereby you’ll always attract criticism, he is wild, hits hard and is extremely awkward.
If you watch the fight again you’ll see some great upper body movement from Mitchell, rolling punches and counter punching very, very well. As I said, it was a professional performance and he did what he needed to do perfectly well.
Now of course, Burns or any other top lightweight, would present a whole different set of problems, but I believe Kevin has enough natural ability to adapt and thrive. I’ve been privileged enough to spend time down at the TKO gym and have seen Kevin train, he’s got talent in abundance. The Katstidis fight I truly believe was a state of mind performance and not at all a reflection on Kevin at his best.
Funnily enough i agree with Steve Bunce’s pre-fight statement in that Kevin will most likely have an easier night against Brandon Rios than he will against Ricky Burns, but I’m sure a lot of people on here would not agree!
Peace.
