Tarver didn't quit boxing because of that.
He quit boxing because he moved and where he moved to wasn't big on boxing so he had to stop and he was playing other sports instead.

Gerald McClellan destroyed pre-tournament favourite Tim Littles in the final at 156lbs of the 87 US nationals, McClellan won the 'best boxer' in all weight categories award. Then at the 88 Golden Gloves, McClellan beat Roy Jones Jr (McClellan was the last person to legitimately defeat Jones Jr before Tarver got him). Bernard Hopkins lost to Andrew Maynard at the 88 US nationals at 178lbs. Nigel Benn beat Henry Maske in 1984 at 165.

FROM ICE... NO, Juy Juy, James Toney didn't fight in the nationals as an amateur... in 1987 Bent beat Joe Pemberton in the finals...and Hopkins didnt fight MAYNARD IN THE 88 nationals...I was there... and Bernard wasnt even there. Benn didnt beat Maske, either.

ha ha, good one ICE, karma for u

JUYJUY, stop this nonsense, you own no one except yourself by putting your threads in the wrong places and getting flamed for it, enough already.

Anytime he can't prove that some Brit beat some American/German/whatever, he resorts to making it up, usually by referring to some amateur tournament. Bentt beat Toney at 201 - HA!

FWIW, James was a 205-pound football player (high school) so I doubt he fought below 201 in the amateurs.
