    An honest doubt.......

Over at the Latino Langa aka Hispanic Lounge I asked the question if there were any latinos who hated some latino boxers.......we got some pretty interesting responses.......so then the question came up in my head......

Do we have any Philipino kats who dislike Pac??

Do we have any African American kats who dislike May????

or does it all fall down the racial line?????

i think that the racial thing you're talking about here tends to only really happen when there are not many (if any) other boxers of that race or background.
i know there are other famous filipino boxers but not half as many as there are afro-american, and the same can be said for throughout boxing history.
so i would imagine percentage wise there would be many more afro-americans that weren't so emotionally tied to being floyd fans, as compared to filipino's that are tied to manny.

in britain we have a similar example with amir khan. almost unique as a superstar boxer of british-pakistani background. i know and have met quite a few people of pakistani background and have never heard any of them have a negative word to say about khan. this also goes for british ******s in general from my experience.
i'm pretty sure that is one of the big reasons why khan was so heavily promoted and invested in early on- he had access to an extremely loyal fanbase that otherwise as a group were not loyal to any particular fighter whatsoever. this in addition to general fans he might have. seems to be what they're desperately hoping for with donaire for when pacquiao either retires or loses.

based on talent an achievement alone it seems to be the case. james de gale who won a gold at the olympics rather than a silver, and certainly seemed more skilful at that time, didn't get half the promotion that khan got. i think this is probably because there are and have been many very good mixed-race/black boxers in britain and around the world so that scarcity value isn't there.

just for information some of my favourite boxers include gamboa, rigondeaux, lara (most of the cubans really), naseem hamed, tyson, mayweather, the klitschkos, calzaghe, hopkins, morales, chavez, valero, leonard, etc etc so i really don't care what race/colour/background a boxer or any other person is before anyone gets upset.

Wilbon from PTI on ESPN doesn't like Floyd. Even calls him a coward.

Same here, the ones that were into boxing before Pacquiao seem to dislike him.

Hey bro thanks for replying to my thread.......I don't know if you know this (I recently found out my self) but calling filipino kats "fl*ps" is like calling a back guy "Ni**er".......My intent with this thread was not to offend anyone this was a legit question that came up...and I'd rather keep it legit........so I'd appreciate if you can edit your comment.....thanks bro

I'm not sure if it helps but I have quite a few black bros that like Manny and dislike Floyd. They are how ever casual fans. I personally have rooted against Cintron twice vs Margo and Canelo. No hate just likedthe other fighter more. If marquez fought against a Rican other than Cotto I would be pulling for him since he is my second favorite fighter.
