Mares said that if Donaire moved to 122, he would also move to 122 since that is the bigger fight. Have you even seen Malinga fight? He's in no way a threat to Mares. There would be no benefit for Mares to take on Malinga after defeating Darch and Agbeko. People here need to get out of the whole boxingscene mentality. Not all fights are good fights. Common sense is not common on this site.

damn, everybody wants a piece of donaire...problem is he can only take them one at a time. he fights this guy and people will say he's ducking the other guys.Comment

Well yes, everyone wants to fight him, but he wants to fight 2nd level boxers. At 118 there was Agbeko, Perez, Abner and he fought none of them. Sure, he got Montiel and that was a pretty good win IMO, but those guys were pretty good. Now at 122 he has Nishioka, Rigondeaux and from what I've been reading maybe Abner Mares in less than a year, but instead he's going to fight Arce.Comment

well, for one ive never seen any arritcles of about mares moving up in weight...also, this article did not say the reason why mares vacated...there was no news why, only speculation...and also, no mares is not anything at 122 at the moment...honestly , no i have not seen malinga but ive never said he was a threa to mares either...ive seen domingo tho who he beat to get the #1 contention...and with the bolded, dont play that **** with me man ..if you wanna talk , we can talk...but don play that ****...Mares said that if Donaire moved to 122, he would also move to 122 since that is the bigger fight. yeah he didn't fight mares or Agbeko, but he did fight the #1 fighter & pound 4 pound fighter in the division in Montiel, which was also a lot more money. He also already previously brutally knocked out the other guy in the tournament in Vic. So it should be obvious why he passed on that tournament - not be locked up for a year and take on the #1 guy for more money.Well yes, everyone wants to fight him, but he wants to fight 2nd level boxers. Vazquez was ranked #7 at 122 so that was a pretty good win considering he moved up in weight and while I don't think the Arce fight is all that great either, he did beat Vazquez and I believe was ranked #3 at 122 before he vacated the belt. After that he says he wants Nishioka, who is #1 and I would much rather Donaire fight the #2 guy Rigondeaux over Mares.
So if you look at it that way, when everything is said and done, Donaire will have fought the #7, former #3, & #1 guys in the division. That's great.Comment

Don't get me wrong, I think that his win against Montiel was pretty good, especially since Montiel was at the top at that moment, but I think there was a lot more to do at the 118 division.yeah he didn't fight mares or Agbeko, but he did fight the #1 fighter & pound 4 pound fighter in the division in Montiel, which was also a lot more money. About this fight with WV2 I don't really think it was that great, WV2 didn't deserve a chance so soon to regain the belt. Arce? Really? He might be ranked at #3 but lets be honest, the guy is way past his prime and is not the fighter he used to be. I love to see Arce fighting, he has a lot of heart and never gives up, but he's been in a lot of wars and he's a fighter that suits perfectly Donaire's style. Nishioka is a much better opponent, he's #1 in the division and is technically a very good boxer. About Rigo, I agree that he still has something left to prove, but I think he would make a good fight with Donaire because of the clash of styles, not because Rigo is the best of the best (although IMO he has great skills and potential to be the best)Comment

all those names you mentioned if offered a fight against arce will take it in a heartbeat so what's your point?Comment

I didn't say it was a great win, I said it was a pretty good win considering it was his first fight at 122. Like I said he was ranked #7 so anytime you can get a top 10 guy in your first fight in the division I think that's a good thing.
As for the belt, yeah that's silly but it's no different than the WBC handing over a belt to Pac for fighting Margarito or giving Canelo a belt for fighting Matt Hatton. It's not the fighters fault the sanctioning bodies are ******ed and hand out belts like candy.
I agree, I'm not thrilled about it either. I wouldn't mind it so much if it was somehow on the Pac-Bradley undercard, then it would make perfect sense. But for a headlining fight...nah.Arce? Really? He might be ranked at #3 but lets be honest, the guy is way past his prime and is not the fighter he used to be. Both Rigo & Nishioka are the fights I want to see. I'm a huge Rigondeaux fan but if Donaire fights Nishioka first I can't knock him for it.Nishioka is a much better opponent, he's #1 in the division and is technically a very good boxer.
