If you've watched Donaire over the last few years I think most will agree he's trying to deliver on the KO's. That's what rose his stock so sharply last year, everyone fell in love with that Montiel shot.
Nonito IS a very skilled, solid boxer. Recently he's been loading up on shots, using his reflexes, and trying to get guys out of there, but I don't think that's his only angle. I think he can easily switch it up.
I would like to see this fight between the Flash and Rigondeaux. I think it would be a good fight but Bob Arum has Plans on making Arce vs Donaire HBO should have these guys fight on the same card so they can build up this fight. With the right money I am sure Donaire will do it.
Like most fighters, Donaire looks best against come forward fighters who are going to engage. And like most fighters, he doesn't look so good against those unwilling to exchange and fighting on the back foot. This isn't some stunning revelation. Those apply to most of your favourite fighters.
Nonito is a fantastic fighter, a counter-puncher who's blessed with ridiculous power, which means everyone expects a Darch/Montiel style KO each time he fights. That's putting a pressure on him, which means he's trying a little too hard.
If he fights Rigo, the pressure on him to go for a KO won't be as intense and he can fight more controlled and less anxious to make a statement.
The simple fact is, Nonito's counter-punching and power is so good right now that opponents are refusing to engage with him. Which means that they may survive getting KOd but they ain't winning a decision. Quite frankly, anyone who is willing to exchange with Nonito is take a tremendous risk, and probably getting KOd. That to me is a testament to how good Donaire is.
Rigo and Moreno do present stylistically difficulties - but they would do to anyone. They're obviously going to be smart and not present much counter-attacking possible for Donaire but run the risk of being out-pointed.
I don't think Nonito is overrated at all, he's a superb fighter.
