If you re-watch the Oscar vs Floyd fight, you can see how the commentators switch their positions from the first half to the 2nd half of the fight. Well mainly Larry Merchant. Larry starts talking about how it's a horrible strategy for Floyd to just conserve energy, because he's assuming that Oscar will get tired soon. Come the 2nd half, when Oscar would hardly land and not throw as much, that's when he starts criticizing Floyd's style, by commentating how ugly single shot accurate punching is. He knew it was working very well at that point, but he had to find a way to discredit him.

And Manny Steward followed his lead, as usual. Floyd is considered a p4p, not a great because he doesn't throw combinations.

De La Hoya knocked out a fresher Mayorga at 154lb, so De La Hoya.

Agreed. There doesn't appear to be a hard fight for Floyd unless he moves up out of his range to say 160. That isn't his fault, it's the standard the same people that discredit him at every turn hold him to.

I find this interesting though. Back when Mayweather-Cotto didn't happen, we all debated why/why not. Then we assessed the fight, and Floyd wins. Floyd critics HATE that with a passion, their mantra is "Floyd is undefeated in fantasy fights," implying, reasonably, we don't know if it doesn't happen. Now, he's fighting Cotto and it's a cherry-pick, a joke, and the weight is his selling point.

I'm just looking forward to the next 12 months. Hopefully the Pacquiao fight comes off. If it doesn't, I'm optimistic the Martinez fight will and at 154. Stay tuned to hear what they complain about then. Hopefully Martinez looks otherworldy in his next fight. If he barely sc****s by, you know the excuses will pile up.

A 34 Year old 154 Pound De Le Hoya trying to win rounds the joe calazghe way (throwing, missing alot) was a very good win for Floyd.

floyd v cotto in '08 was a tough ass fight for floyd.

i dont think this fight is a joke, but its not the best fight available. whatever, its not horrible....but oscar was a joke fight, he beat a totally inactive mayorga and got spanked by bhop and sturm before. oscar was 4 and a half years removed from a good win
