Don't think his run at jmw has been against top opposition, but it can't be denied that on the way there he fought almost everyone. Add Mayweather and it's hard to find a top fighter at or around 147 that he didn't fight on his way up.

Foreman while not exactly Godzilla was a legit champ and undefeated (Manny wouldnt fight him for one) and Mayorga was a ticket seller and probably viewed as prep for Margarito who while not at his best had half the industry and half this site picking him, a nightmare style for Cotto and a match that HAD to happen. All this on the come back from the Pacquaio thrashing

I give Cotto a by for his 154 campaign and now he is fighting the best fighter on the planet

I disagree with all the credit Cotto gets. 1st of all he was a huge huge huge 140 pounder who was a natural WW fighting at 140. Then at WW he fought a smaller Zab after a couple of losses. He fought Margarito after the Williams L but even then, why should he fear Margarito? Guys like Pac & Floyd have moved up 100 divisions so they have to consider weight but why should Cotto get major credit for fighting Margarito when they are the same size? Pac & Floyd arent going to fear anyone who is natually the same size as them.

Then he loses and he fights a great fighter in Pacquiao but it was by far the biggest money out there for him and he was again the much bigger guy. His 154 resume isnt that special and anyone would fight Floyd. The only fight I give him a big amount of credit for is the Mosley & Clottey fights but again, why should Cotto fear them if they all are the same size?

Its not like he went up a ton of divisions and is fighting guys who are bigger & stronger than him. Why would Floyd duck someone at 130? Its not the same thing at all. Again, Im not critizing. Its great that he's fought all those guys but I dont think he should be given more credit then other guys or a guy like Floyd when its different circumstances.

Also, its easier to fight guys after you lose because you have to fight the top guys to get back to the top and if you lose to a great fighter then it doesnt look as bad on your resume
