When you talk about a fighter's experience...

...Do you guys mean how long they've been in the sport?? Or how many fights they had.

Because a lot of people would say Saul Alvarez is inexperienced and too green, but if you look at his resume, he's had a lot of professional experience. He almost has as much fights as Floyd Mayweather. He has 1 more fight than Miguel Cotto. And he's only 21 years old. Of course Cotto and Mayweather have more experience at a higher level, but I mean, fighting wise, I'm sure Saul fought many different styles.

And I'm not trying to start no argument here. I think Floyd chose the right guy picking Cotto. I'm just curious what you guys mean by experience.

It comes down to what styles uve encountered, what situations have arisen in your fights and build ups, how long u have been plying ur trade and how many top flight fighters u have faced. Saul to me is fairly inexperienced Cotto is not.

Ricky Hatton for example was experienced before facing Tszyu i felt. He hadnt beaten any elite fighters but had faced some good ones, former champs and the like. He had been down and gotten up, had blow outs, rough nights, close fights, bad cuts, big build ups, packed arenas and encountered many different styles over a fair amount of time

Amateur experience could also be taken into account as well. That's how a lot of fighters get noticed, it's like a first impression. Sure, amateur boxing isn't the same, but it can't hurt either.

True, top flight amateurs also have the experience of traveling to foreign soil to face top opposition in tournaments

Cotto is more like worn out, rather than experienced. He's an old 31. Floyd is past his best, but at 35, I would say he's more like 30.

Age doesn't matter thhough, it's your fighting style and lifestyle that wears you out and ages you in this sport. I'm sure Cotto drinks, and we've all seen his style and how much he gets hit.

There is a difference between fighting cab drivers and professional boxers.
