99% of great fighters went downhill in their careers.

As for fighters who made drastic improvements/turnarounds from early in their careers:

Pipino Cuevas lost 5 of his first 12 fights
    Steve Robinson started out 5-6

Why didnt Hopkins "kill" him the first time?

On topic: Johnny Nelson came to mind. He lost something like 12 fights before he came WBO Cruiserweight Champ and then went undefeated for 15 defences.

well its all personal opinion....i just dont respect half the punches Slap lands..i feel HOp did do enough to win the first fight..but hey it went Slaps way so hey cant argue much altho it WAS a split decision and most pro's felt Hop won...i mainly just like getting under the skin of Slapzaghe fans lol

hopkins didnt kill jermain for three reasons.

                      1. he was unwilling to take risks.
                      2. jermain has a bad style for hopkins to go up against.
                      3. jermain was hungry. but after he won the titles and fired pat burns he got lazy, he stopped training between fights to get better and started putting on weight like crazy. then his camps would just be about losing weight which he would do in way too short a time period. in short jermain hasnt prepared properly for any of his fights between the hopkins rematch and the abraham fight.

on topic **** tiger comes to mind. he had a very bad start to his career, even his manager told him to retire. then he went on to be a world champion and one of the two best african fighters in history (i figure it comes down to him and azumah nelson).
