By Robert Morales - Miguel Cotto, for the first time in his pro career, will not be fighting under the Top Rank Inc. banner when he defends his junior middleweight title against Floyd Mayweather Jr. on May 5 at MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The fight was announced Wednesday by Mayweather when he was granted a one-fight conditional license by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

For those thinking Cotto's longtime promoter, Top Rank chairman Bob Arum, is peeved at Cotto for taking a fight that won't include him, think again.

"No, no, I know where you're going with this," Arum said as the question was being asked. "Miguel lived up to every contractual provision that we had and we lived up to every contractual provision and the contract expired. There is no animosity. We're very fond of him."

Arum was told that it was big of him to say that.

"It's not big of me to say that," he said. "If the guy had violated a contract, I wouldn't be sounding like this. But he didn't." [Click Here To Read More]

arum has done a lot of shady things but he did a tremendous job with Cotto. Not only with getting him up there with top guys like mosley, judah, and Pacquiao, but he totally reinvented him after the bad loss. He got him a title immediately after against Foreman, a financially successful, entertaining yet low risk fight with Mayorga and of course the Margarito fight which cotto looked brilliant in. Part of the reason why Cotto got Mayweather is because Arum did a great job with Cotto after the Pac loss.

No need for Arum to be mad. He'll work with Cotto in the future and he knows it.

Bob Arum did a really good job promoting Cotto. Now Cotto needs go solo and get the best fights out there that will fill his bank account. Thats what Bob Arum gets for always trying to keep everything inhouse.

Bla, bla, bla... Arum can say all he wants, but deep down inside we ALL know that he's SUPER pissed!! If you believe what Arum had to say about Cotto signing to fight Floyd well then I have a bridge in Brooklyn that I'd love to sell you, real cheap.
