My thoughts exactly. Nonetheless I'm still very excited to see Cotto get that big payday that he deserves, big event come Cinco De Mayo!He COULD, but as I've said a million time before, I'm not sure if at this stage of his career
Cotto can really beat Mayweather. I felt his best chance was back when he had beaten Mosley and Judah, I'm sure Cotto can still make it competitive with his pressure, size, power, and body punching, but overall I think Mayweather's superior boxing ability and conditioning are what's going to decide this fight, especially in the later rounds.Comment

Not sure if Cotto can withstand all the shots. Not because Floyd is a massive puncher, but Cotto has showed he can't recover as well as he used to post-marg. I wonder how his face will hold up...and if his corner stops the fight if it looks like he's just being hit at will.. Cotto just doesn't seem as menacing with his body attack as he used to. Still though, many think Cotto actually lost a REALLY close decision to Shane and I just think Cotto is going to eat a lot of rights and get backed up. He has a good jab and a lot of people have always believed it's going to take a great jab to beat Floyd so there's that.
Still...bigger Cotto fan than I am Floyd but I think Floyd by TKO in the later rounds. The tragedy in this is that if Cotto pulls off the upset, he's possibly dumb enough to fight Pac at a catch weight again.

You guys gotta be kidding me..... Cotto doesn't stand a chance.
This fight is over before it even starts.Comment

I can't argue with that, tailchaser. I'm such a big Cotto fan but I don't see anything that will give Floyd problems aside from maybe getting into a rhythm for maybe a round or two, landing some jabs, then Floyd adjusts as always and just runs away with it in the later half where he starts making Cotto look really bad... I feel like this is the Shane - Mayweather fight again. Loved Shane, wanted him to win, thought he could win...but we all saw what happened.

Cotto is a good boxer but Mayweather is a great boxer. With how far forward Miguel tends to lean, he'll be eating straight rights all night long. A pleasing fight, but Floyd is going to totally outclass Miguel. 9-3 or 10-2 scores me thinks.
Defensively, Floyd will demoralize Cotto.Comment

Er...back when they originally tried to make it happen, both fighters were under Arum. That's all he does is pair his own fighters, but it never got done at 140.Wow, the impact one man can do to the sport. Floyd - Cotto has been asked for years and never delivered. Some can say duck, some can say scared from both sides yet all it took was for Cotto to become a Free Agent and this fight gets done within weeks. FU Bob Arum!! Thats all I have to say!!
Then it was tossed out there when Cotto was still undefeated and taking names. Mayweather then said, "I'd love to fight Miguel Cotto, but he's got to make a name for himself. Right now, I don't think he generates enough revenue..." and then some more bull****.
Cotto fights anybody and everybody. That's what makes him great. He bounces back from getting cheated, he learns from his mistakes, and he fights hard. His fights are always exciting, and he has added a lot to his game since he used to be a 140 pound brawler.
That said, I expect Mayweather to stick his elbows out there and catch Cotto a few times, couple with some pot-shots to score a few cuts. He'll win a decision or a doctor-stoppage, and people will call for Cotto's retirement.
I wish this fight would have happened 4-5 years ago.
Only a blind and deaf ****bag would think that. Cotto was up at LEAST 6-4 heading into the 11th, and then won that round going away. Neither fighter did anything in the 12th, so that's a wash.
The problem with people is that they only remember the last bit of action they saw. It rounds 9 and 10, Mosley made a little comeback. 11th was slower, but Cotto was the cleaner of the two, and finished it with a ****.
The "comeback" was overblown, and too little too late. Cotto landed the last meaningful shots, and did enough to win a comfortable decision.
I say this as an American who was pulling for Mosley. Sometimes I wonder if people even watch these fights...Last edited by Brassangel; 02-01-2012, 11:20 PM.Comment

Indeed. How the tables have turned. Mayweather is stepping up the competition level and Pac's next fight (Bradley, Marquez IV, whatever) won't cut the mustard. This is 3-4 years too late but I have to say I kinda respect Floyd for this choice and for not weight-draining Cotto when he could've. If Floyd had wanted it to be so, Cotto would've come down to 147 for $12-15 million. Floyd wins by UD but all hopes are for a Cotto victory, because it would shake the tree and maybe we'd start talking about something other than Pac-Floyd.Comment
