  • Possible MAY 5 fight: Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs Sergio Martinez

SOURCES SAY: Mayweather wants to accomplish big things and isn’t satisfied facing the guys – Timothy Bradley, Lamont Peterson, Miguel Cotto, and Juan Manuel Marquez – that Arum is considering for Paquiao’s next fight. Mayweather wants to do something really special like beating the middleweight division’s best fighter in Sergio Martinez.

Mayweather said this about a potential fight against Martinez: “If Sergio Martinez can make 150, let’s make the fight happen.”

A Mayweather-Martinez fight could be a huge fight; one that if he won it would further cement Mayweather’s legacy/greatness. In the past, the Argentine southpaw has said he CAN make 150, and that he would do so for a mega-fight with a Pacquiao or a Mayweather. Scheduled to face Matthew Macklin on March 17th (very possibly a tough, gruelling fight), would “Maravilla” be able to fight again as soon as May 5th, a mere six weeks later?

Fans, many of them anyway, have long since grown tired of Pacquiao shenanigans , as the guilty party preventing the fight being made, and it just might be that a Mayweather-Martinez fight would intrigue them more than a Pacquiao fight. As legendary trainer Angelo Dundee said recently, a fight can only capture the public’s imagination for so long.

why do you have to be a little ***** in all of your posts? just wondering

floyd decisions sergio, but this fight won't happen until Floyd decides to leave 147 behind for good. i remember a comment he made about coming back down from 154 after oscar and he appeared to have problems doing it

Would love to see this fight, much as I doubt it will happen.

I think Floyd dissects him for a clear decision win.

150 is a joke for real......"I beat the middleweight kingpin at 150 lbs"...........that'll do wonders for his legacy and in further promoting him as a joke.

there was a poll a while back where people said Floyd/Sergio at 150 is a legit fight, smh

                  154+ or nothing

granted sergio isn't a big middle weight, but you're asking him to lose 10 pounds and pretending it wouldn't largely affect him at age 36 or 37

                  lol
