Did Any One Notice that Floyd.....?

Mayweather looked a little slower last night? Granted, he was trying to knock Mitchell out. I immediately thought of Mosley moving up in weight and how he started throwing less combinations and had slower handspeed.

Yes, I posted the same thing on another thread. He was still fast as hell but not as fast as I thought he would be. I also think he's faster than most welter anyway so he shouldn't have that much problems against them IMO.

The guy who posted this seems very familiar, and yes he might have slowed down a noch at the heavierweight.

yeah he looked the same speed as ever...

one just has to consider the fact that Mitchell fights kind of ackward and sloppy at times...PLUS Mitchell has decent head movement so comparing Floyd vs someone like Gatti in his last fight to Floyd vs Mitchell is a bit different as Mitchell was not there to use his head as a speed bag...that is why Floyd went to the body more...

AND also as you said Floyd was going for the knockout from the beginning especially after he hurt Mitchell in the opening round...

one thing to notice about Floyd, is that he is not a blazing quick "flurry" puncher...he doesn't throw 5-7 punch flurries like Leonard did...Floyd's game is more about being quick AND accurate on the release of single, double, or triple punches...he doesn't try to overwhelm guys with slapping flurries...

        example...

he doesn't throw 1-2-3-4-5-6 missing nearly all of them

        he throws

        1 - 2-3 - - 4-5 - - 6 landing nearly all of them

something like that but they all come off accurately, smoothly, and hard...that is what I like about his speed...it is more about landing the right punches where 4,5 or 6 out of 6 of them land rather than missing 5-6 slapping punches to try to dazzle the crowd...he actually pays attention to each and every punch he throws whether he is off balanced or not

plus Mitchell is no slouch in the decent speed department...but in the end, Floyd was too quick on the release and too accurate

either way you HAVE to expect a fighter MAY "look" a bit slower moving up in weight...when you gain weight, you don't necessarily gain speed...a fat dog probably won't run as fast as a smaller dog...

Well said... well said. Also, goes to show you, Mitchell was a better opponent/fighter than Gatti as Sharmba did considerably better than Gatti.

Also, wasn't it a little weird to have Gatti's trainer(McGirt) in Sharmba's corner given the terrible gameplan Gatti fought with against Floyd?

He was just patient waiting to hit Mitchell with the overhand right, same punch that Tszyu was succesful with against Mitchell. He did seem a bit slow but he was trying to utilize his defense.

yeah, thing is NO one will look blazing fast vs a mover like Mitchell compared to a bag like Gatti...

a fighter almost HAS to change how they fight especially going from a brawling punching bag like Gatti to a mobile boxer like Mitchell...

you I would NEVER expect Floyd to look as fast vs Judah as he would vs say Cotto...

              as I ALWAYS say:

"different fighters fight differently on different nights vs different opponents"

Leonard looked slower at Middleweight than he did at welterweight...just the way it goes

i think he was fighting a different fight than normal
he traded alot more than he normally would have
i still think he has the same speed, he just didnt use it as much

I don't think he was slower. Mitchell was just making him miss.
Mitchell's stance and the way he moves and holds his hands took away both the left hook and the jab upstairs & downstairs for Mayweather.
I think without being able to throw those punches it really hurt Mayweather in how he looked.
Let's not forget Mitchell was holding alot.
One thing I didn't really see from Floyd last night, probably because he was fighting more offensively, was the head movement and countering off of it..

he didn't really even need to move his head...Mitchell wasn't able to get off much effectively offensively to make Floyd worry...Floyd practically walked Mitchell down all night because he had no respect and knew he could impose his skill, speed, and size on Mitchell
