Does anyone think a win over Martinez at 150 means anything for either Pac or Mayweathers legacies?
Martinez at 150?

lets look at sergio martinez
he began his career as a WW in his early 20's after a late start as a boxer (and he reportedly lives a very clean and athletic lifestyle, staying in shape year round, abstaining from alcohol, etc.)
he fought every few weeks in the beginning stages of his career, meaning he wasnt afforded a boatload of time to shed weight during a long training camp
he entered the jr MW division in '03, fighting at or around 152-4 and never again returning to fight as a WW
recently he's been fighting as a smaller MW, but his body has certainly filled out more as it's adjusted to fighting at MW
during the begginning stages of camp and after fights he's been noted to weigh in the 180's, while still observing a clean lifestyle and maintaining a level of fitness at the very least typical of a true year round athlete.
many boxers have a tendency to let themselves slide a bit after fights, especially the larger ones. martinez has a reputation for not falling into those traps.
he's 5'10 and has a 75.5 inch reach. that's a HW reach.
he doesnt have a tiny frame, even for a MW.
i'd be absolutely shocked if he can make 150 lbs and be healthy enough to fight.
yes, i understand that he's put the number out himself, but he's not going to be the first or the last fighter or promotor to call out manny pacquiao or floyd mayweather. even getting your name out there is good for business. i doubt very much they expected anybody to take the bait.
saying you can fight at 150 and actually getting there a few months before your 37th birthday when you havnt been that light in nearly a decade is entirely something different
again, i would be totally shocked if sergio fought at 150
i think team dibella and sergio were pulling a bit of a desperate stunt to either get their names out there
or try and goad them into taking a fight to get their foot in the door and then trying to leverage for a couple extra lbs
if it's at 156 i think sergio beats the bag out of pacquiao
and loses a close decision to mayweather
at 150 he's going to be looking like bam bam at the murray weigh in
manny is too much of a puncher and too aggressive for a guy in that state to finish (ask oscar)Last edited by New England; 01-30-2012, 10:53 AM.Comment

Agreed. If either Pac or Floyd bothered to fight Sergio, do it at 154 or don't do it at all. Even if Sergio was okay at 150, no one would believe it.Comment

either way it looks good on them (they are fightin a bigger man) despite the catchweight,,,
your in boxing these GUYS are athletes,, id drop an extra four pounds if that meant a paday against either or pacman/floyd
sergio's style will play into affect for mayweather,, he fights too much with his hands down,, (you seen what happened to victoria right),, not comparin ortiz n sergio but i see martinez eatin mayweathers right all night!Comment
