In his regular newspaper column he announces the date as March 4th 2006.

He's also taken out insurance so that Lacy will get £350,000 (about $650,000) if Calzaghe doesn't show for whatever reason, and £23,000 (c. $39,000) if Joe doesn't make it to a press conference.


Warren also talks about Floyd's bout with Mitchell, using it to refer to the slating he's got over how he carefully matched Hatton in his career: "If I'd have made that match for Hatton, I would have been slaughtered."

Oh, okay, I'll keep an eye out. That's a good Q actually. From the sounds of it, Gary Shaw's driven Warren to a hard bargain, though Calzaghe will obviously be the draw in Sheffield. (it is Sheffield they're fighting in, isn't it?)

They should just call it 50-50 and have done with it, shouldn't they?

Quite possibly they should. I've heard that North American fighters (some) will discuss % and then balk because they don't get the number they seek, so remain content in the USA, but, in reality, they could have realized a bigger total payday in Europe with the lesser %.

Sounds like a handy built-in excuse!
