  • Comments Thread For: Lucian Bute, Showtime Negotiating Upcoming Fight

Negotiations are ongoing between IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute (30-0, 24 KOs), and the Showtime network, to finalize the Canadian star's next fight. A source with knowledge of the details spoke with QMI Agency. Bute has one fight remaining on his Showtime contract. According to the source, the network is reluctant to approve an April fight between Bute and former champion Carl Froch, because it leaves the door open for Bute to win and then jump ship to HBO without fighting Andre Ward, Andre Dirrell or some of the other top "American names" at 168, who fight on Showtime.

Lucian Bute vs. Andre Dirrell. There is a damn good chance Bute loses. Dirrell beat Froch, unofficially, but he really did beat him.

I tried to explain all this weeks ago but nobody listened.

If Showtime pays Bute to fight 3 stiffs like they have, televises the Froch fight, then loses the Ward fight to HBO they make themselves look really ******.

Bute doesn't want the Ward fight on anything other than his own terms. I said over a year ago that Ward-Bute wasn't going to happen and would be a huge pain in the ass failure of a negotiation on every level.

A fight with Andre Dirrell should fit into Showtime's plans.

Well you were wrong on one point: it is Ward who doesn't want the fight. Bute even offered to go to Oakland.

So, will we see some honesty from you?

The only way for Showtime to retain Bute is to guarantee he'll fight Ward on their broadcast. Showtime left Bute out of the super 6. When the tournament was going down the drain, they recognized their error and signed him. Bute was supposed to fight big names and none has been available. Not Bute's fault, he was waiting for them. Now that the tournament is over, they are losing Ward for HBO and want to screw Bute? This is not reasonable. If I were Bute, I'd fight Dirrell and then fight Ward on HBO.

"Bute said he would go to Oakland" LMAO

                    Key word "said".

Bute says a lot of things about fights he wants and lengths he is willing to go to yet he never finds himself in the ring against a decent opponent.

They say they will go somewhere then they enter into a negotiation and say "well we can draw a bigger gate in Montreal so it doesn't make sense to agree to go anywhere, Lucian can stay home, fight a bum and make the same money."

Story of his career. I'm not being hateful, I am just not ignoring history like you two nuthuggers.
