    Do you remember these nights???

From 1980 to 1985...Leonard-Duran 1 and 2...Leonard-Hearns...Holmes-Cooney...Hearns-Hagler...plus the night in 1982 when Sugar Ray announced his retirement on network TV...plus Cosell on ABC Wide World of Sports interviewing fighters before the fight and after (he interviewed Cooney the morning after the Holmes fight out by the pool at Cesars Palace)...do u remember where u were the nights of those fights? Who did u want to win? Etc?

    Like they were yesterday.

Leonard-Duran 1: Was at the fight at the "Big O". I was 11. Delighted Duran won.
Leonard-Duran 2: At home in my bedroom listening to round by round reports on my radio. Heartbroken by "no mas".
Leonard-Hearns:Closed Circuit at the old Montreal Forum. Pulling for Hearns
Holmes-Cooney:Closed Circuit at the old Montreal Forum. Holmes was my favourite fighter and I felt Cooney was undeserving. Very tense racially. I think I was the only white Irish guy pulling for Holmes...LOL!
Hearns-Hagler:Closed Circuit at the old Montreal Forum. Hagler all the way. The atmosphere was electric and the place exploded after the first round!

1980-1985 was a great time to be a boxing fan. Love your threads, Iceman!

Pogue, I remember Leonard-Hearns 1, I was walking around my neighborhood that night, wondering what was happening at that moment in Vegas... couldnt believe one of them was about to lose!!...and the day Holmes-Cooney fought I had a baseball game and I remember being in the outfield wishing the game would hurry up and get over so I could go home and get ready for the fight...MAGICAL DAYS...

For the Holmes-Cooney fight, my parents did not want me to go because there were concerns about racial violence. If you recall, it was a nasty build-up and there wound up being some scuffles at the Forum. I had just turned 13 and my uncle told my parents he was taking me to a movie...then we went to watch the fight.

I won a bunch of money betting on Holmes. Well, a "bunch" as far as a 13 year-old was concerned!

It was a little too young for that time but boy I wish we had those times now. I am in envy of people who got to experience that great time in boxing in the 70's and 80's.

I watched HAGLER-LEONARD at the civic center on closed circuit and I remember an early SRL flury and the guy in front of me yelling at the screen, "Take that baldy!!!"

                    Chavez vs camacho
                    Tyson vs Douglas
                    Gonzales vs carbajal
                    In my teens
Just about every Oscar big figh
                    Motales vs Barrera
                    Ward vs Gatti
                    Hollyfield vs bowe trilogy
