Amir Khan set to learn rematch fate against Peterson

Peterson should accept the rematch.
I don't care what anyone says, even with the bulls**t point deductions, he didn't beat Khan. How did Peterson win anymore than 3-4 rounds in that fight???
If Peterson wants to prove he's elite, than rematch Khan and win again, than go on to bigger fights at 140 and 147.
If Peterson doesn't accept, than how could people possibly say Lamont isn't avoiding a rematch with Khan???
It's the not the same case with Khan-Maidana, because Khan beat Maidana fair and square. And this is coming from someone who's not even a fan of Khan. But, I am sick of hearing "Peterson shouldn't give Khan a rematch" and than listen to "Khan should give Maidana a rematch". That's a big reason why I can't stand Maidana, who wouldn't even give Victor Ortiz a rematch.
Khan-Peterson II, it's what's right.Comment

There is no way anyone can expect Peterson to negotiate on a serious basis a rematch until the pending appeal with the WBA is finalised and Manny has selected his next opponent. This deadline stuff is GBP putting THEIR time line ultimatum. They have offered 50 50 but Peterson is the champion and when the dust settles over the WBA appeal and if Manny is out of the picture Team Peterson will offer THEIR terms to Team Khan and Golden Boy. Those are the real terms that count and if the WBA appeal is overturned Peterson is even more in the driving seat than he is right now and I expect them to offer GBP and Team Khan a 60 40 split in Peterson's favor. Peterson might not be getting any more big money any where else but Khan is not getting his belts back or a chance to redeem himself unless Peterson fights him.
What goes round comes round. I don't think Peterson is very happy with Khan's post fight antics and his negotiators have had to deal with Team Khan in the past and I would imagine that was a less than pleasant experience. Peterson has the whip hand now and it is now Team Khan's turn to reap what they have sown.Comment

I think the appeal itself shows that Peterson is not willing to negotiate. There is no way anyone can expect Peterson to negotiate on a serious basis a rematch until the pending appeal with the WBA is finalised and Manny has selected his next opponent. I want to see a rematch. Good fight... Good clash of styles...
Peterson has lucrative options though. Arum is dangling the Pacquiao, JMM, and Bradley carrots, so even though Top Rank all but wasted 2-3 years of his and his brothers' careers, he'll probably resign with them.
Khan and GBP don't have much leverage except for what would be a lucrative Khan fight. They seem desperate though (Khan needs the rematch to be able to redeem himself and get back on the Mayweather road). If the WBA forces a rematch, I can see Peterson vacating, but hopefully they have the rematch. Seeing JMM vs. Peterson is a great fight though, so it's win-win for fight fans that aren't Khan fanatics.Comment

That simply is never going to happen, I really don't know how some of you guy's got this "60-40 in Peterson's favour" into your heads. Even without those belts, due to his contract with GBP and his deal with HBO, Khan will still be able to get the same amount he got in his previous fights, same probably can't be said for Peterson. 50-50 deal on worldwide revenue seems fair offer and for some reason I just don't see him make that amount against Marquez or Bradley, and its a risky fightThere is no way anyone can expect Peterson to negotiate on a serious basis a rematch until the pending appeal with the WBA is finalised and Manny has selected his next opponent. Like it or not, the one positive thing Khan can take from this situation, is that it stirred enough controversy, that they can spin this lost into him not getting a fair shake there and move on. Peterson refusing to give a rematch will only add fuel to that. They're already talking about him facing Mosley.
Peterson better not lose those belts, cause if he does, he should ask Breidis Prescott, Marcos Maidana and Paul McCloskey if they're ever gonna get that rematch with Khan.Last edited by hogwash; 01-26-2012, 08:43 PM.Comment
