If Dirrell wanted the Ward fight we would be hearing from both of them quite a bit. However, as you said, they are friends and probably prefer to push the fight to the side for the time being for various reasons.
In this situation Dirrell is probably content to take a few dollars to step aside and get a few more fights under his belt to polish his skills. As much potential as the guy has he really doesn't have much in the way of World Class experience and that is something he should have before fighting a guy like Ward.
If Dirrell can win a couple times in impressive fashion then a fight between he and Ward becomes much more attractive. As it is now it's a fight that appeals almost exclusively to hardcore fans.
