Is PPV good or bad for boxing?

Who actually buys these heavyweight PPVs? And now that the lighter (and much better) guys are going PPV too will there be any more boxing left to see for the fan on a budget? Showtime and HBO rarely show undercards anymore and the fights they show are stuff like tonight's fiasco. Mayweather moving up to welterweight to fight an aged junior welterweight. What's next? Will the Superbowl, the World Series, the NBA finals be PPV someday since there are plenty of fools who will buy it? Even ESPN who charges a fortune for their cable package is trying to bill their fights PPV.

the superbowl, world series, etc are all too big to be put on pay tv at this point in history. for hardcore boxing fans, there have actually been a number of really good fights on basic showtime and hbo networks this year (any of Lacy's fights, corrales-castillo 1, etc, the list can go on, someone with a better memory help me out). With PPV, it's all a point of being able to see if it's a favorable matchup or not. A case can be made that too many cards are being placed on PPV, but there's really no point in just complaining about it, start a petition or something if it really bothers you that much. As far as tonights fight, i personally, am looking forward to seeing PBF showcasing his skills once again.

As far as what there is to watch, showtime is doing wonderful things with their "Shobox" programming that's on almost every other friday night. HBO has, granted, had a pretty rough year, but they will make changes and provide better cards next year, IMO. Yes, most PPV is very costly, but if you're really into it, you'll have to make financial sacrifices like im sure alot of us do on this board. I'm proud to be a boxing fan and i'm not gonna let a few crazy PPV price ruin my love for the sport. It's just a case of picking-and-choosing.
