    Mesi admits it

Unbeaten heavyweight Joe Mesi has confirmed that he suffered a subdural hematoma in his bout with Vassiliy Jirov, but says that one of the top neurological experts in the country, Dr. Robert Cantu, has concluded that "the vein that bled has dissolved and no longer exists." In a column in today's Buffalo News, Mesi wrote that Cantu's diagnosis has been presented to the Nevada State Athletic Commission, which suspended him after the Jirov fight. "I would be at no greater risk than anyone else entering the ring and that I shouldn't be barred from resuming my career," Mesi wrote. "I know there's a lot of uncertainty among my fans about my future, my chances of getting back into the ring and pursuing my dream of becoming the heavyweight champion. But let me tell each and every one of you that I'm not giving up, that my dream still lives and that I believe I will fight again."

One good shot from Wlad, Vitali, Rahman, Golota or Toney and this guy is finished. Very ****** of him to continue his career.

I agree. Wayne McCullough had the same thing happen to him and he went 3 yrs until he paid some doc to clear him. Mesi is not only risking his life but if he were to suffer a hemarige in the ring after been banned it could cause boxing to be banned. Very selfish individual this Joe Mesi guy!

I like Mesi, dude has stamina issues but hey, dont we all.

If people told me that I couldn't engage in an activity that I'd devoted my life to, I'd be pretty ****ing devestated. It's his life, let him decide.

If he dies in the ring then at least he'll have died doing what he loves.

Sure, but then the ban boxing lobby will be on the case. We know Mesi has severve injuries to his brain, this is a fact and letting him fight is risking the sport of boxing being banned. its the bigger picture. The only way i would justify it is if Mesi signed a contract excluding all responibility for those sanctioning the fight so that boxing is safe. We know mesi has brain damage, he knows it, why harm the sport because he wants money? It isn`t fair. Let Mesi sign a waver so if he dies in the ring boxing and the doctors don`t shoulder the blame!

Didn't McCullough get medical clearance early which apparently proved it had no affect on his boxing career? It was the British Board of Boxing Control that wouldn't license him for 3 years.
