but id probably take them over fat and slow thompson

      fat chambers

      chubby arreola, etc

      sure

      you can make that argument.

this isnt an "america good, everybody else bad," argument

this is a "huge talented guys are playing in the NFL and NBA, and fat/unmotivated and untalented guys are boxing at HW" argument.
Talented, talented at what? Running into to each other and throwing a ball?

Real football is the most popular sport in the world, and to reach the top you have to excel not only into physical attributes but in mental attributes.

It is a bogus argument, A lot of countries in Europe MMA, Kickboxing and other combat sport have a much higher participation, so there go a load of potential boxers.

America happens to be the fattest country in the world bar none, is it any surprise why it's heavyweights can't stop eating.

More drugs in American sports than any other, well mayb bar cycling.

And shame on any thinking that being big strong and fast all you need to become a great boxer.

Can't believe people actually peddle out this argument. Maybe Japan's Heavyweight scene is held back because of the sumo wrestlers.

Football and basketball dominate the landscape at the moment, and our best athletes get funneled into those sports.

This is not like in the golden age when baseball and boxing were the top dogs in America. And everyone wanted to be Babe Ruth or Joe Louis.

Mcdonalds, Burger King and Subway dominate the landscape at the moment. You will find more American Heavyweights there than you will find in the NFL and NBA.

          this isnt a nationalistic argument

the argument is that every great athlete in america that is large is heading to these sports

          period
          that is the argument

          you have chris arreola
          eddie chambers
          tony thompson

you have these guys heading to boxing. these guys are not talented.

in the major sports you have athletes with talent

what the hell dont you guys get?
          seriously
ask me some meaningful questions and i'll try and answer them

you dont make any sound points to refute our (very simple) claim

the american men who box at HW are not the talented ones
the talented ones are in the NFL and the NBA

and they are freakishly talented. they are almost exclusively HW.

i'm not saying they are garanteed to dominate boxing

          but i'll ask you
which ones do you want boxing on your olympic team?

if you are a trainer, which ones do you want coming to your gym when they are 12 years old?

the current crop with zero talent?
          or the gifted athletes?

          i'm done with these threads
          done
you guys are a lost cause if you dont see the logic

Yeah I forgot Boxing and the American Football and Basketball are the same. Ali could have been the best quarterback ever, and Marciano would have been better than Jordan.

Maybe if David Beckham would went into boxing he would have beaten Mayweather and Pacquiao.

Yeah and If the Klitschko's would have boxed in their teens, just think how good they could have been.

The Williams sisters dominated for a long time (after Hingis) then the Belgians came along and broke that dominance, then we had Russians, now Wozniacki.

Happens in every sport. Those who know their cricket can use the West Indies teams of the mid 70''s to 80's as an example. Absolutely dominant and scary team, now the Windies suck. Ditto Australia. We had a team that dominated for 10 years in cricket, and it wasn't even competitive....not so anymore.
Ah yes, Vivian Richardson. Who could forget.

Unless I've got this whole thing wrong ? .
Yeah and in all other countries, when you are get over 200lbs you are sent to a boxing academy and that is the only choice for you.

Boxing is far more popular in America than 98% of the worlds other countries.

Beckham plays a girls' sport. That's about as far from boxing as it gets.
