All of Europe's and South America's best heavyweight prospects are goalkeepers in soccer. Most of these guys are 6' 4"+, have great reach, and lightening quick reflexes.
All of Australia's best potential heavyweight prospects are playing Australian League Football (an extremely tough sport). These guys are tough, big, and have terrific stamina.
All of New Zealand's and South Africa's best prospects are playing rugby.
All of Ireland's best prospects are playing Gaelic Football.
All of Scandinavia's best prospect are participating in the World's Strongest Man competition and writing black metal music.
Boxing isn’t shown on TV in America so it’s obvious hardly anyone will take it up if they can’t watch it, it’s a shame really it would be great to have more American fighters just to add to the talent pool but boxing just looks so bland these days. If you watch shows from the 50’s and 60’s even the Madison square garden golden gloves events got thousands of people turn up to watch heck even a title fight these days would struggle to match that.
Seth Mitchell is the first American heavyweight in about 15 years who looks like a quality prospect.Comment

When America went from having Ali, Foreman, and Frazier in the 70s to pretty much only Holmes in the 80s, was that because Gridiron grew? When Tyson and Holyfield came along afterward, was that because gridiron shrank?
By the way, the amount made globally in soccer would make that made by gridiron look like pittance. If boxing has competitors in America, it has just as fierce ones elsewhere. As an Australian I couldn't tell you the name of a single NFL team. But I've heard of and know the team colours of Manchester United, Barcelona, Arsenal, etc. and I don't even watch them play.
I think those with a natural love of the sport, and I think it would take that to succeed in it, will naturally gravitate toward it. But there is fluctuation in everything, including success.Comment

In general people don't take up boxing as much these days, although according to UK government statistics boxing is one of only 16 sports that have seen an increase in participation in the UK which is a good thing.

This was in 2009, and with the rise of Man City and other clubs with mega rich owners I would not be surprised if football dominates that top 10 now.Comment

Machester Utd are the most valuable club in the world.
And football is hugely popular in Europe and lets face it the rest of the world except for the USA, Canada, Australia, India and parts of the far east.
So why isn't America dominating everything from 140lbs to cruiserweight?Comment

you're actually making the point football is a detractor to boxing.
