I assumed this Sturm fight is a sure thing, if he's dropping this date. But according to Rafael, it's nowhere near, that Lee wants to protect his ranking if the opportunity comes up. So you might be right there. I still say, if he gets the Sturm fight, he made the right move.

It's easier to make a deal with Sturm if you don't try to get him out of Germany

That is where the fight will take place? As long as Lee gets the title shot I'm okay with it. Hopefully it is not another robbery although it may very well happen.

DS was saying, why is it so hard to make Sergio Sturm then. Cause Sturm would be the one travelling. And it's not only cowardice on Sturm's part. He makes coin there, and to make it worthwhile for him to come over, and cover Sergio, the pot would have to be outsized even by HBO standards. And neither guy is a pull here.

Supposedly one of the main reasons Sturm didn't leave Germany was that his contract with Universum promotions didn't allow it, but that contract has since expired. Dibella was told by Sturm that he was finally interested in coming over to fight Martinez in 2012 because of that, although I'm pretty sure Dibella also tried to get the fight in Germany as well.

On the plus side, if Lee beats Sturm, we might get Lee vs Golovkin on HBO. I doubt the WBA won't enforce his mandatory on Lee because he isn't as big of a cash cow as Sturm.

Lee deserves his title shot. Has beaten all that he has fought. He is not pulling out of Paddies Day just for a fight, he is pulling out of it to become the middleweight champion of the world. and if Macklin bets Martinez- Ireland will have 2 world champions, wit them meeting in Ireland next. and even if 1 wins and 1 loses- Ireland will still stage a world title fight between Tipperary and Limerick!!! When it comes to Boxing- THE IRISH ARE BACK!!!
