So Lee is taking a fight that's less risk (punishment, not judging wise), and is a lot more reward, in money and prestige. And you think they should have offered Quillin more of their undercard cut instead?

He had a chance for international TV exposure on a major network. The last time anyone saw Sturm fight was against Oscar years and years ago. When was the last time Sturm was on HBO/Showtime?

It doesn't matter, I wouldn't say Lee is lacking in exposure. It's not like he has trouble getting on a St Paddy's day undercard. If he gets robbed by Sturm (worst case scenario), he's on the next Martinez undercard anyway. If he wins, he'll headline HBO for 10 times the money.

And he he loses to sturm, it is off to oblivion. If he lost in a war with Quillin, they would want him back. One fight is on TV, the other in obscure germany with no international TV.

The Sturm fight will be televised in Europe/UK, and probably by Epix. Losing to Sturm pretty much puts you in contention for Martinez, see Macklin. Even this guy Murray was offered this very HBO undercard slot by LDB for a good effort against Sturm. Lee has builtin marketability, and Sturm is unlikely to shatter it, in fact very likely to enhance it. Sturm is ripe for the picking...

That is a huge downgrade from HBO/Showtime and if Lee loses, it is obscurity for him. No way losing a close decision to someone no one has seen in years in Sturm helps Lee in any way and if he wins no one will know about it because it will be a footnote somewhere. Maklin is an exception to the rule of getting a date with Martinez. Meanwhile the Showtime fans are screwed out of a big eliminator with Quillin for a fight with Sturm that won't be on international TV, afterall who the hell gets Epix? Comcast, Direct TV sure don't. Sturm must be pure **** to not have made it to HBO or Showtime like so many other fighters from other countries have. I guess getting knocked out by an aging 154 pound fighter didn't help Sturm and sealed his fate for any chance at international exposure.

Complete slap in the face by dibella & steward

THIS IS A COMPLETE SLAP IN THE FACE BY DIBELLA & STEWARD TO THE TICKET BUYERS OF THIS EVENT. The fight was promoted on St. Patrick's Day, and DiBella did not pull the Andy Lee fight until well after the tickets to this event went on sale and most definitely well after the majority of tickets were sold. This is a HORRIBLE "bait and switch" to the event ticket purchaser....buy the tickets for the Irish boxer on St. Patrick's Day and
then leave the St. Patrick's Day ticket-purchased fan without the Irish boxer as the co-headline, and only with Sergio Martinez, who can't even fill a ballroom with Paul Williams in Atlantic City.

Best of luck to Andy Lee with Felix Sturm in Germany...but your promoter has really disapointed your New York fan base by pulling you after he sold the St. Patrick'e day event with your face-plastered across every poster.

A huge downgrade? He was just on back to back HBO undercards that no one gave a **** about. This is a world title shot, for probably 5 or more times the undercard money. If he gets robbed LDB will make sure to let you know, he'll get an HBO shot right away. Macklin's never even been on HBO FFS, he gets main event after losing.

And Sturm not being on HBO has nothing to do with his quality as a fighter (not that great) or even his profile. It's the fact that he fights 7 timezones away. You realize that HBO doesn't like doing overseas broadcasts? The timing and the logistics are too much.

For more evidence on Lee's marketability, see the post below yours. I bet he sold more tickets for the March 17 show than Martinez.

HBO/Showtime does overseas broadcasts but Sturm is only a star in Germany. And Lee just lost a bunch of fans backing out of the Showtime card. If a boxer is not on HBO/Showtime or a PPV, he is not a star. Bottom line. Losing fans and exposure is not good. Maklin got main event because of one name...Martinez. No way would anyone put him on Showtime against anyone but a star. Showtime didn't chose Maklin, they just accepted him. And Lee just alienated his New York fanbase who already bought tickets. Way to go. Ran from Quillin and Showtime to fight on an obscure channel called Epix for a paper title against a guy who has been seen only once. Way to go.
