Comments Thread For: Duva Discusses Main Events' Direction on NBC Debut Card

She could’ve accepted an offer from one of the countless aged and/or irrelevant heavyweights who volunteered to replace Eddie Chambers once the contender from Philadelphia withdrew Friday from his fight against Sergei Liakhovich on eight days notice. Duva, whose promotional company, Totowa-N.J.-based Main Events, represents Liakhovich, also could’ve served up an upproven prospect to the former WBO champion in the inaugural main event in the NBC Sports Network’s “Fight Night” series.

I love the way promoters always say this is a "great" fight....c'mon now we're not ******. You have 2 inexperienced 6 round fighters in a main event. It's unfortunate that you lost your main event which was a very good fight and its not your fault it fell out but please don't say you have a great fight as a replacement when its clearly not.

Better 2 undefeated heavyweight prospects than Liakhovich (who's ceiling has become that of a gatekeeper) vs. a journeymen (especially one of the older veterans who are built to survive on 30 punches per round). They are unknown talents in a heavyweight division that seems barren of legitimate challengers and inexperience usually lends itself to entertaining fights.

It depends what you call a great fight... If a great fight to you is an all action war no matter the fighters involved this can be one... If the fighters involved have to have name recognition, resume, etc. than it doesn't even have the opportunity (unless it does so retroactively). For those of us that have been watching Shobox in the last few years, when these matchups are made good things happen.

I think she made the right choice. I think two unknown undefeated prospects is a lot more interesting than the other options she had.

I'll watch, mainly because I think boxing needs more events like this on t.v.
