    Are these fighters underrated?????

Jose Luis Castillo, Diego Corrales, Winky Wright, and Vernon Forrest. All were top fighters in their era's, when they were still good and not way past it. In terms of their careers and such, are these fighters underrated in people's eyes, or do they get their due for their careers???

    Jose Luis Castillo:

    2000: Stevie Johnston- W MD12
    2000: Stevie Johnston- DRAW PTS12
    2001: Cesar Bazan- W TKO6
    2002: Floyd Mayweather Jr.- L UD12
    2002: Floyd Mayweather Jr.- L UD12
    2004: Juan Lazcano- W UD12
    2004: Joel Casamyor- W SD12
    2005: Julio Diaz- W TKO10
    2005: Diego Corrales- L TKO10
    2005: Diego Corrales- W KO4
    2007: Herman Ngoudjo- W SD12
    2007: Ricky Hatton- L KO4

Castillo had controverises with Johnston (twice), Mayweather Jr., Casamayor, and Ngoudjo. He argubaly beat Floyd the first time, which ranks him higher in my opinion, and had wins over Johnston, Bazan, Lazcano, Casamayor, and Corrales. Yes, he should have retired after the Hatton fight, but oh well.

    Diego Corrales:

    1999: Robert Garcia- W TKO7
    2000: Justin Juuko- W KO10
    2000: Angel Manfredy- W TKO3
    2001: Floyd Mayweather Jr.- L TKO10
    2003: Joel Casamayor- L TKO6
    2004: Joel Casamayor- W SD12
    2004: Acelino Freitas- W TKO10
    2005: Jose Luis Castillo- W TKO10
    2005: Jose Luis Castillo- L KO4
    2006: Joel Casamayor- L SD12
    2007: Joshua Clottey- L UD10

After the Castillo fights, Corrales was past his prime. He had controversies with Casamayor (twice), and had wins over Garcia, Juuko, Manfredy, Freitas, and Castillo. In a huge Super Featherweight showdown when Corrales was Top 10 P4P, he was dominated Floyd.

    Winky Wright:

    1994: Julio Cesar Vasquez- L UD12
    1996: Bronco Mckart- W SD12
    1997: Adrian Dodson- W TKO6
    1998: Harry Simon- L MD12
    1999: Fernando Vargas- L MD12
    2000: Bronco Mckart- W UD12
    2002: Bronco Mckart- W DQ8
    2004: Shane Mosley- W UD12
    2004: Shane Mosley- W MD12
    2005: Felix Trinidad- W UD12
    2006: Jermian Taylor- DRAW PTS12
    2006: Ike Quartey- W UD12
    2007: Bernard Hopkins- L UD12
    2009: Paul Williams- L UD12

By the time he was fighting Taylor and Quartey, he was past his prime. He had controversies with Mckart, Simon, Vargas, Mosley, and Taylor. He had wins over Mckart, Dodson, Mosley, Trinidad, and Quartey. Yes Felix was past his prime, but you could argue that Winky only really lost to Vasquez when he was young, and against Hopkins and Williams when he was way past it.

    Vernon Forrest:

    2000: Vince Phillips- W UD12
    2002: Shane Mosley- W UD12
    2002: Shane Mosley- W UD12
    2003: Ricardo Mayorga- L TKO3
    2003: Ricardo Mayorga- L MD12
    2006: Ike Quartey- W UD10
    2007: Carlos Baldomir- W UD12
    2007: Michele Piccirillo- W TKO11
    2008: Sergio Mora- L MD12
    2008: Sergio Mora- W UD12

He had controversies with Mayorga and Mora, as well as wins over Phillips, Mosley (twice), Quartey, Baldomir, Piccirillo, and Mora.

Are these guys overrated, underrated, or just perfectly rated????

Castillo definitely. One of the last skilled pressure fighters the sport has seen.

Corrales seems to get his proper respect, while Winky Wright varies wildly between criminally underrated and laughably overrated.

Forrest is a tough case. It's hard to forget that he lost to Ricardo Mayorga twice, but the dude kicked the crap out of Sugar Shane at his best. That's impressive.

Agreed. Castillo is WAY WAY WAY underrated. People say that Floyd arguably lost the 1st fight to Castillo and they think that's a big mark on Floyd. Castillo was a great fighter in his prime, the top Lightweight in his era, and Floyd beat him convincingly in the rematch. Had Castillo gotten his proper due, those fights look a lot better on Floyd's resume.

Corrales is rated just right I think, but people do forget that Diego was Top 10 P4P at one time and considered the best Super Featherweight in the world at one time.

Wright is underrated to me. He really beat Taylor (unbeaten) and Vargas (unbeaten) to me. Plus, he beat Mosley as well. He was also really avoided in his prime (1996-2003/2004).

Forrest is overrated to me. Yes, he beat a prime Mosley, but he also lost to Mayorga and really doesn't have another good win. He beat Mora, when he was unbeaten and Quartey, but that's it. Yet, people talk about him like he was on the verge of being an ATG. I don't think so. He had the style to beat a ton of good Welterweights, but his career is a little overrated to me.

I think on here many of those fighters are quite underrated, but those of us who were boxing fans back when those guys were at the top of their game would likely never underrate those guys. I think the reason we see many of those fighters who peaked in the mid 2000s not get much love on here is because there is a large demographic of members here who weren't even boxing fans at that time, so they have more than likely only ever seen Castillo-Corrales 1 if they have watched those fighters at all.

The thing with Wright is that there doesn't seem to be much middle ground. People either underrate him too much or overrate him too much. I don't know why, but he just rarely gets properly rated.
