    British judges vs American judges

Just wondering who you guys think is better. Looking for informed opinions, not patriotic putdowns.

Seems like a lot of British hometown favourites get the decisions in the fights I've seen. Not that I've ever seen a total ripoff...anyway, you could say the same thing about most countries, probably. And nobody seems as bad as Germany.

I've been trying to watch more British boxing these days so I'd like to know ahead of time if I should be keeping an eye out for shady officiating or if in general they're on the up and up.

I've voted "both equal" ... It really depends on a lot of things as to whether they'll be biased or not - (Promoter/fighters/venue/etc).

Are there any British ripoffs you can think of in particular?

I guess club-level fighters in all places get the decisions when they're fighting in their hometowns. Happens all the time on FNF, and in Canada the Canadian fighters get the decisions a lot.

Its probably equal because from what I understand boxing is an all around SLIMY sport

There have been some bad decisions when two British fighters are fighting for a British title over the years... That's mainly to do with promoters having a lot of money invested in a particular fighter.

When foreign fighters have come to the UK shores and been treated a little unfairly on the cards in the last 3yrs:

Victor Polo got a draw against Scott Harrison, My scorecard read 3 rounds too Victor Polo.

Injin Chi vs Michael Brodie 1 - I had Chi winning the fight again by 3 rounds, it was scored a draw.

I can't think of too many off the top of my head... But neither of these fights were out and out robberies!... They were close fights with a hint of help from the judges.

Marty-boy got there before me, Harrison-Polo was a rip-off, if not an out-and-out robbery. If Harrison had had the nuts to say "Och, I wee lost tha bugga, I got a wee gift tha nooooooooos" I'd respect him more. Though any featherweight who turns up to the fight weighing 12 stone has to be a bit of a **** anyway.

One thing about British fights I'm not sure if people know is that it's only very recently that they've had three judges. Before it was the referee scoring the fight himself, a weird set-up which led to abberations like the ref saying Michael Sprott beat Danny Williams at the third time of asking because Danny pissed him off. (Danny, Danny, Danny... I'm turning into JuyJuy).

Actually, I was gonna be diplomatic, but I don't remember any UK verdicts that were THAT bad off the top of my head. The reffing might be arguably more lenient, but the notion that people keep saying stuff like "Lacy will have to KO Calzaghe over there to get a draw" has no substance coming from the land of Byrd beating Oquendo, De La Hoya beating Sturm, Tito.....

Okay, good to know, thanks .

I remember seeing a Cosme Rivera fight in Britain where he TKOed the hometown favourite and everyone was really quiet. It's kind of cool when a guy can go into that kind of pressure and come out with the win, like in Zab-Spinks II.

Brett Lally spoke of a fight that he had in England when we were training at the same gym. By his words he beat the guy from post to post and after the final bell was waiting for the decision. He said that the ref just went up to the English fighter and raised his hand, declaring him the winner.

Brett was never a pretty fighter when speaking of style. But he had alot of heart and some big balls. His style may not have been appreciated by the referee in that fight, who knows? I never did see the fight so I can not comment on the decision.

I would say that the american and english judges are even.
