Comments Thread For: Gesta's Manager Denies Talk of Chelo Gonzalez 3/10 Fight

After a report surfaced that had unbeaten Filipino lightweight Mercito Gesta (24-0-1, 12 KOs) facing Jose “Chelo” Gonzalez (18-0, 13 KOs) on the Mar. 10 undercard of WBO featherweight champion Orlando Salido’s rematch with Juan Manuel Lopez in Puerto Rico, Gesta’s manager dispelled the rumor in speaking to BoxingScene.com Friday afternoon.

Mercito Gesta is making a mistake by not taking this fight. If Gesta really wanted to fight the best, he'll prove it fighting undefeated prospects and contenders like Jose Gonzalez. Instead, Gesta keeps fighting journeymen.

Well one journey man got a draw with Rios, and was completely dominated by Gesta (Perez).

        Triangles theories don't work.

First of all, Rios fought perez years ago when he was just a prospect.

What else has Perez done since the Rios draw?

Dominated? Gesta struggled in that fight. This kid is overrated. He started at 115. He looks like a blown up boxer.Roach said the kid ain't that good.Khan is way better.

Gesta isn't known for ko power and so most likely the fight would have gone to the cards and considering its in chelo's backyard there is fear of the scoring be in chelo's favour. Parra said he'd be open to have the fight take place in a neutral city like Las Vegas. So I guess I can see why they never accepted the fight.
