    Leonard vs. Mayweather Jr.

I was thinking about this today at work. I have been watching some old Sugar Ray fights and think that a prime Leonard and a prime Mayweather Jr. would be a good fight. I think they have a style that are very similar to each other and think it would be a good fight. Anybody else think the same?

Mayweather wins. I think Mayweather could go down as the greatest of all time. He sure does have a shot.

For me its a tough call. Sugar had a shot on him to. He just didn't use it enough. I don't know, its tough. Arguments could be had for both fighters.

        hmm

This fight would be a clear win for Sugar Ray Leonard. Leonard foguth and had great success at much higher weights than Floyd, and still was as fast if not faster. Leonard is too big, fast, and strong.

Mayweather's good but his style doesn't help him. A small boxer isn't going to outbox Ray. Ray's style would trump Floyd's, similar to how Jones' trumped Toney's (although with Floyd it wouldn't be quite as bad of a whitewash).

It would be an extremley close fight because both are great. I don't even know who I would pick.

I don't think Leonard ever fought anybody as fast as Mayweather. The speed on Mayweather is incredible. I think it would have been a great match. Leonard was able to kill people because he was fast. How would he do against somebody as fast or faster than him.

                hmm

I've seen Ray fight and I continue to watch Floyd fight. Ray was faster. Floyd is also very fast but mainly he is very accurate. Ray was MUCH stronger than Floyd, with just as good stamina. Ray fought plenty of guys with good handspeed. Hearns' handspeed was awesome. He wasn't as accurate or as good a counterpuncher as Floyd, but Hearns' hands were as fast.

                Ray Leonard TKO7 Floyd Mayweather.

Next time ask the question as a mythical P4P style matchup, and at least then Floyd has a chance.

Well how about a 145lb. Mayweather Jr. against a 145lb. Leonard?

                    hmm

Nope. Ray still wins by KO there.

Ask the question like this: "If Floyd and Ray were naturally the same weight, who would win a fight between the two and how would it go?"

In that case, I'd say Ray by UD. Floyd would definitely have his moments but Ray's style is suited to beat Floyd. Ray beat too many great fighters for someone to really say Floyd wins this. Floyd still is young and has lots of time left. This would be fun to watch, but better to think about it a few years from now after Floyd will hopefully have had career-defining fights vs Hatton, Judah, Margarito, etc.
