I don't see Sergio calling out Super-Six people and that's only one weight class above his own. He needs to grow some balls of his own. He will only take chances now if its for a LOAD of money, but he won't go up to 168? I find that funny.
Martinez won't go up to 168? is this a joke? Martinez fought almost his entire career at 147. He went up to 154 as he got older and then went up to middleweight (160) to fight Pavlik and Paul Williams (and then his two defenses of the belt he took from Pavlik). He is a very small middleweight and would be a midget at supermiddleweight (168). Martinez is really a jr. middleweight (154). Floyd is really a welterweight (147). Pacquiao is really a jr. welterweight (140). It is as fair of Martinez to ask Floyd to come to 154 to fight (or even a catchweight like 152) as it is for Floyd to fight Pacquiao at 147 size wise. And Martinez doesn't want to fight guys like Ward (zero drawing power), Arthur Abraham (really? Did you watch him get his ass handed to him in the Super Six tournament), Pirog (zero name recognition or drawing power and doesn't want to fight martinez) because there is no money to be made. Martinez wants to make money given that his career is almost over. Can't blame him for wanting the biggest fights possible.

Note: I'm not even a martinez fan. Up until his new found power surge, he was boring as hell to watch. Athletic, fast and boring. He's much more exciting now (especially given how much he gets hit now), but not a real favorite.

      Seriously good post.

It is absurd that Martinez can still make 154, and yet some folks insist that he should be fighting at 168. Hell, the guy is clearly already punching above his weight at MW, and even recently stated that he can make 150.

People who cannot justify why Manny would not fight a JMW for his JMW title, should not be suggesting that a guy who can make 150 should be fighting at 168.

No, lets give attention to two dudes pretending that they want to fight one another instead of the actual fights that are going on in the realm of actuality.

Seriously, people in here are taking shots at Sergio for saying the same thing they themselves have expressed for years in NSB.

How true. And now I hear that Martinez wants Ward at catchweight ?

*** me, the lengths that some guys will go to in order to land a big fight.

I think that is ridiculous to be honest.

Ward is a level above anyone at SMW, and he can fight at LH.

I think that Martinez should take Pirog, he may not get much credit for the win in hindsight, but at least its for a title and at least it will shut up some of the ignorants.

i agree i wish he'd try doing this instead. sturm, geale, pirog, and chavez got all the world titles. obviously chavez is ducking, but man, just pick one of those 3 and start trying to unify before your age starts to show. this is what i would love to see him do as a fan, or fight all the big names around you if you can somehow work out a c/w.

ok for the guys mocking sergio for "whining", can you guys at least take what he says into context? you guys seem to be under the impression that he made these statements out of frustration. but if you watch the video you see he was minding his own business and didn't say squat about mayweather and pacquiao until the reporter started asking him about. all he said was that he doesn't care about it cuz nothing's gonna happen between those 2. the interviewer continued to ask him questions about it and he just said he'll fight either of them if they want.
when they stopped asking him questions about it, he stopped talking about it. plain and simple.
so stop making it seem like he's whining when all he was doing was answering questions that he was being asked. if he hadn't everyone would call him an ass, if he does you say he's whining. can't win with you guys can he?

also, watch the interview, he showed nothing but respect for his opponent. sergio is pure class. he gets a bad rep cuz of fighting with his hands down and does roy jones type stuff, but he's not trying to disrespect his opponent, he's trying to get him to attack so he can counter. roy jones did that stuff and everyone loved it. when sergio does it he's an ass.

                    friggin ridiculous.

Agreed, Dank. Also, another issue of note is..what happens if he fights (and beats) someone like Bute? There's literally nobody else aside from Ward at that weight, but neither are legacy making type fights yet. If he beats Bute, it's basically "Well, Bute was unproven". If he beats Ward (which I doubt, Ward is too physical and match that with some serious size..well...good luck). Also bear in mind that the wolves will come out trying to challenge him if he makes a serious weight gain, knowing that he'd have a lot of weight to cut (coupled with age) and possibly have an advantage..you see it happen all the time. Look at what happened when Roy went back down after that Ruiz fight. Never the same again. Martinez gets a lot of crap for challenging "smaller" guys (who fight or have fought in his weight class) but none of the Pac fans mention anything about Nonito fighting 4'11 guys. Still, I love Donaire..<__<..but that's besides the point. Martinez is fighting in a non-natural weight because nobody will fight him in his. Give him his props, he's trying to find a challenge worth his time.
