Mike Alvarado (32-0, 23 KO’s) has been mentioned as a possible opponent for Rios’ next fight. Alvarado fights for the same Top Rank company and they like to put their fighters in with each other for in house fights. This would be a tough fight for Rios because Alvarado, 5’9”, has a lot of power and is a little taller than the 5’8” Rios.
At some point Rios may have problems staying at 135 no matter how carefully he works with his nutritionist. At that point it’s going to be interesting to see if he can be a factor at 140.

      I think Alvarado flattens Rios.

      He's bigger and stronger.

Ill take Rios over Alvarado. . . Rios has better technique on the inside, he would be turning his punches over on that ass! Rios in a lopsided 12 round decision.

Rios felt Acosta's and Antillon's power.

Alvarado is a far more powerful.

Mile high could be fighting at 147 and it will show.

If he can still make 135, we might be seeing Rios against Vazquez, Abril, Mitchell, or Burns en route to a Gamboa fight.

If he can't make 135, the Gamboa fight would have to be postponed to a later date (if at all), and we might be seeing him against Alvarado.

Gamboa is going to step up to 130 or 135 in his next fight so they want the Rios fight in 2012. I want to see that fight; Gamboa's outside game vs. Rios' inside game is an interesting clash of styles. Rios is being looked at as if he's a bully for trying to fight Gamboa when: 1) Gamboa wants the fight and; 2) Gamboa could put a beating on Rios (seriously... a Gamboa by TKO is not an impossible outcome).
