    Is boxing BIG in japan???

I was watching Hajime No Ippo: new challenger series and one of the characters said that americans like bryan hawk are disrespectful ****heads that frown upon japanese boxing because they only conqure smaller weight classes below junior middlweight/welterweight.

Then I noticed that in real life there are lots of japanese boxers as well but I never see them on the espn/hbo undercards??

Any reason they dont get recognation in real life???

Why "and even MMA" MMA is THE sport in Japan.

Sumo, karate, judo, kendo ect, ect.

Baseball is the biggest sport. Combat sports are second, that includes boxing, MMA, Sumo, etc

thats not true. even the highschools in japan have boxing teams. and their amateur program is proly like top 2 or 3 as well. boxing is pretty huge over there. mma might be bigger but only baseball is definitely bigger for sure.

Wow I never knew they had boxing teams!

To be honest I thought that kickboxing was the number one combat sport in japanese then sumo close second...

In Japan they like baseball and also combat sports (yeah, that includes boxing) but from what I've seen they like more combat sports such as kickboxing and they have these K-1 events in Christmas and New Year's eve.
