Douglin Kicks off 2012 with a ****; Outpoints Martinez!

Key West, FL (January 7, 2012) – Denis “Da Momma’s Boy” Douglin of Morganville, NJ scored his biggest victory to date by outpointing highly touted and previously unbeaten junior middleweight Steven Martinez Friday evening at Mallory Square in Key West, FL.

Kicking off the 2012 season of ESPN’s Friday Night Fights, Douglin and Martinez engaged in an entertaining bout that was competitive from bell to bell. Douglin boxed effectively and connected with the cleaner punches, while his Bronx, NY based foe was the aggressor. Both men had spurts of success and believed they deserved the victory, but Douglin’s boxing skills ultimately earned him the nod over his former amateur teammate via eight round split decision.

“I’m happy with the victory and Steven is a terrific fighter, but I’ve still got plenty of improvements to make,” stated Douglin, who improved to 14-1 with 8 KO’s. “I’ll be right back in the gym making the necessary adjustments that will get me to the next level.”

Douglin also feels that many of his critics have been silenced.

“I definitely showed everybody what kind of a fighter I am,” exclaimed the 2008 National Golden Gloves Champion. “I’ve fought tough opponents in back to back fights and Martinez is regarded as one of the top prospects on the east coast. This is just the beginning though and I’m going to continue my journey up the ranks until I become a world champion!”

just caught up with the FNF from last night....

The Douglin vs Martinez fight was easily the best as both were well matched , i thought Martinez sneaked it 77-76 4-3-1 in rounds , it was a very close fight that could have went either way , a rematch would be just a s good

    my card...

    10-9 douglin
    9-10 martinez
    10-9 douglin
    9-10 martinez
    9-10 martinez
    10-10 draw
    10-9 douglin
    9-10 martinez.............77-76 martinez

The main event with Davis and Lopez was as mentioned disappointing. Teddy Atlas rightly said it was a clash of styles that did not mix , for what its worth i had it 97-94 Davis..i scored the first round even as only 5 punches were landed between them
