I disagree with the very first sentence. Martinez is not one of the 2 or 3 best fighters in the world.
He's done very well in a short amount of time, but overall he has so few notable fights. Although, in his notable losses he has an easy argument for winning one of them, and the draw against Cintron couldn't be bigger garbage.
That's unfair because he did more than enough to win against Cintron. More than enough, he should have had a KO victory over Cintron. He got robbed twice in the same fight.
When a fighter does more than enough to win and still doesn't get a victory than that's a robbery and I don't see how you can fault him or say he didn't do enough to win. I understand that line of thinking for close fights that could have gone either way. But, went the opposite from the general public had. But, not when it's a robbery.
And, no the KO to P-Will doesn't look worse by the day. Sure you can say P-Will is shot but how did he become shot in the first place?
I agree with you that there was some strange nonesense that took place in the Cintron fight, but Cintron had one foot out the door. He wanted to quit but Serge couldn't push him out the door. To me, that ain't doing enough to win. A top level fighter woulda got Cintron outta there. Martinez coasted and got a draw. Originally I thought yeah he got robbed twice in the same fight but looking at it again, no it's typical Martinez and he got what he deserved.
As far as Williams, yes the win looks worse every day, not only cuz Williams is shot but also cuz he wasn't that good to begin with. We see now how horrible Paul is and that KO looks less and less shocking. It's kinda like Calzaghe's win over Lacy. Looked great at the time but at second glance, it's not nearly as impressive. Also Martinez doesn't deserve full credit for softening up Williams. Quintana, Margarito(with loaded handwraps???), Mitchell, Matthysse and even Serge himself(in the first fight) among others landed tons of clean shots on Williams. Martinez just picked at the leftovers. And knowing all of this, how bad does Sergio's loss to Williams look??? Pretty damn bad.
