Floyd and Pac obviously aren't fighting in May, that's a given. But with the recent news about Cotto going to do his own thing, and Mayweather inevitably getting out of jail in probably a little over a month (plus added community service, etc), if you're Floyd's people or even Floyd himself, you want to get back in the ring ASAP. Now, I don't believe Pac vs Mayweather is going to happen in 2012 (Yea, Yea, I know). But who else is out there that can still provide a high profile fight for Floyd? Well let's ask ourselves:

    A. Who hasn't Floyd fought yet?
    B. Who's got a pretty big fan base?
    C. Who besides Floyd and Pac has fought on PPV consistently the last several years with good numbers?
    D. Who's an opponent that has fought Pacquiao, but not Floyd?

Sure, It's a fight Floyd would be favored in, but it adds somewhat of intrigue still considering we've seen Pac fight some fighters Floyd fought prior, but now it can be turned the other way around, and if the news holds up about Cotto truthfully going on his own, ironically it could be the best time for this fight to actually happen.

Now, before the Mayweather and Margarito fans start pulling their hair screaming "NO!", remember one thing...Floyd is about 1 thing and one thing only, making the most money he can, and there really isn't anyone on either Pac or Cotto's level as far as being an attraction in their own right when it comes to ticket sales, PPV, etc. Cotto without question is the 2nd biggest money fight Floyd can take.
one of the problems for cotto waiting for floyd is that there is no telling when floyd will be available to fight, as he does not have his boxing license and there is no gaurantee nevada will re-issue his license this year. Whenever floyd reapplies, NSAC already said they must have a hearing first, at which point the panel will vote on whether or not to give him is license, after reviewing his new felony charge amongst other cases.

Canelo is good money, right now. Personally, I'd take what's in front of me instead of waiting on something you just have no idea will play out.

Nah I def feel you on that. I wouldn't wait if I'm Cotto either, but I think even Cotto knows (be it he goes along with going solo) that this is the best chance he has to fight Floyd (be it he clears all his issues up). I know he's always come off like he'll fight anyone, but I have no doubt (like many others) that he wants a shot at Floyd, and it probably would be a bigger financial gain for him than if he was still with TR. But hey, just throwin scenarios out there lol.

Chavez Jr. I want to be the first one to mess up his perfect record and win four titles in four weight classes. I doubt it'll be Canelo, I still think his preference would be to work with Arum and Golden Boy won't risk him against Cotto without getting future options on Cotto, which I don't think he'll be too keen on.

Would like for Ortiz at 147 if he beats Berto. Would be a hell of an entertaining fight. Canelo would be cool.

I had previously wanted to see Cotto fight the winner of Rodriguez/Wolak II, anticipating that Wolak would win. Now that Rodriguez won it...I'd be down

I'd think its a good action fight.

I don't think the Canelo fight is all that intriguing, especially if GBP is handling it. The suspect handling of Canelo's fights as he moves on up is unsettling. I think Cotto would be going into extremely hostile and unfavorable territory.

And as a backdrop, I would love to see Cotto/Martinez. I was a homer for Martinez, but he's becoming a punk and at 154, I think its a 50/50 fight.

Also, if Cotto would rid the world of Timothy Bradley, that'd be nice
