  • Cotto going SOLO, bye bye Arum/Top Rank (according to PR newspaper)

According to Primera Hora, Gabriel Peñagarícano, Cotto's legal advisor, has told them that Cotto will follow De la Hoya's and Mayweather's lead and plans to go solo. There is a good relationship with Arum, but he wishes to make more fights, and wishes to fight with other promotions also. So he will negotiate fights one-by-one and represent himself.

"Very few boxers can afford this luxury. Those who do are without a doubt the main eventers of their PPVs", said Peñagarícano.

As he should he is the 3rd biggest draw in boxing. And he should be treated like 1.

Lots of good fights with Golden Boy fighters for him. I hope this means he drops his plans to fight Chavez since it's completely unnecessary now.

I wouldn't bite the hand that feeds you.

Why would Cotto want to leave Top Rank, they've done pretty good job with him.

Why would it be biting the hand that feeds you? Do you stay at one job forever because they pay you?

Because Top Rank have carefully guided Cotto's career and made him what he is today.

Who do you think Cotto should be fighting next?

He's not boXing's 3rd biggest draw. His market is mostly NY/PR.

He can't even sell out Vegas on his own. His nuthuggers make Cotto be a DLH type.

He is the 3rd biggest draw in America....he's just a REALLY distant 3rd.

This is a good move for him, I'm really glad he's doing it.

So? He made them a lot of money too. He's not obligated to be with them for the rest of his career. And I don't know who Cotto "should" be fighting next - I'm sure at this stage of his career he wants the biggest fights possible.
