Is Lamon Brewster The Number One Heavyweight?

It was a beautiful spring evening in Chicago. Flowers were blooming, people were in good spirits, and it was going to be an exciting Saturday. The anticipation was growing on this historical night in May. People were just getting relaxed… then suddenly, a feeling of shock spread over the crowd. [details]

Brewster is the best of the bunch right now for the following reasons:

1)Byrd is a boring fighter, fights infrequently, and has about the same pop in his punches as Corey Spinks

2)John Ruiz...hmmm...He fights barely qualify as boxing, he already lost to James Toney, even if TOney was on roids, ROy Jones made him look like a fool, and his manager should be in pro wrestling, not boxing.

3)Rahman didn't even win his title, his last fight was terrible, and his last big win was over Kali Meehan. Vitaly would have beat his ass.

        Thats it isn't it?

He did ask for opinions and that is what I offered. Would you prefer something along the lines of: Lamon Brewster has decent boxing ability and has shown that he has a good deal of power behind his punches. In an unification tourney it is unlikely that he would fight Byrd since they are cousins (or soemthing), so it would be either Ruiz or Rahman. Brewster probably has enough power to ko Ruiz if he jumps on him early and doesn't let Ruiz wear him down by clinching. Against Rahman the same thing may apply, I think Brewster is faster and has better endurance, which would lead to either a late ko or ud. If for some reason he fought Byrd I think he would have too much power and enough boxing ability to give Byrd a hard time. Strangely enough I think Byrd would give Brewster the biggest problem...that better?

I think Toney would beat Brewster handily. I think Wlad would beat him handily. Byrd would match up well against him. I'd favor him against Ruiz but I wouldn't bet the farm on it. Against Rahman I'd probably favor him.

I dont think it really matters a whole lot that Toney can't fight John Ruiz for the WBA title.

Brewster is just so slow and unskilled in coparison to Toney. He doesn't have a signifacant height or reach advantage either even though he does hit alot harder I dont him landing many meaninfull shots against Toney. Not even body shots, Toney would counter him to death if he got offensive. And Brewster isn't going to win fights playing the defensive fighter, unless the human punching bag strategy would work.
